A few very wet snowflakes a few minutes ago. Otherwise it's just wet and raw. Not at all looking forward to that Welsh precip now, as it simply isn't cold enough for anything better than sleet. This is actually likely to be one of the least pleasant days of the entire winter here!

I can just see the Clent Hills, though, so at least I can see some lying snow from my house!

Weirdly, it's just started snowing here! Very wet and not sticking, and I don't imagine it'll last more than a minute or two, but more than I expected anyway!

A real mix of snow and sleety showers since midnight here. Snowline is annoyingly 20m higher than my house. Taking dog out to enjoy some of the white stuff in the higher fields behind me.

I think we csn safely write off this 'cold spell' in terms of snow for much of the lower ground of the Midlands.

Roll on spring!

Failing that get on a train  to higher ground

Which is forecast to be Sleet and Rain - not snow, it's not a polar low. But yes CH - to write this spell off now is silly, even if nothing comes of it.

Had a sugar coating overnight, but that's turned the floor very wet and puddly now. We have light snow and sleety/rain alternating at the moment so anything that falls today won't stick, unless it's epic - with another band of sleet/rain coming this evening. We will need to look to Saturday onwards now.

The new MO warning for the Midlands this evening...

Showers of sleet, snow and hail will continue through the rest of Thursday and into Friday morning, although at lower levels there will be a gradual trend towards rain and sleet from Thursday evening onwards. This will bring a risk of further snow, especially on higher ground, along with icy stretches on untreated surfaces.

The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel.

This is an update to the warning issued on Monday to extend the warning a little further southeast into parts of the Midlands, and also to include ice as a hazard.

So as mentioned earlier, this evenings front will be mostly rain for everyone.

Nice to see the MetO warning come within about 5 miles of me :p But it pretty much says it'll turn to rain and sleet later. They have been right the past few times when it comes to calling rain and sleet unfortunately.

I'm not expecting any lying snow from this. I'd be really happy to just see a half centimeter covering, but I am very much doubtful of even that.

A bit further North and hammering down in Cannock.

Here a bloody dry gap!

That's the nature of showers, as forecast. Most people in the Midlands will be sharing your experience this morning.

I think overnight might be of more interest to us, Fozzy. Fingers crossed!
