Indeed, New Brighton and West Kirby marina were frozen, I doubt that's happened since 1963 since it is marine water.

Although the likes of 1963 and 47 were persistently cold, it never actually got that cold around these parts, despite some deep snow at times.

1981 was impressive though, that was the year we got -10.2C, which was the year of the original record until 2010 came along and knocked it off its perch.

Well nothing to cheer us up from the NMM I'm afraid.

In fact there's even less PPN across Ireland and it doesn't extend as far west as yesterday.

The 32hr from the 12z and the 33hr from the 00z for comparison.

Crosby hit -17.6C in December 2010. I remember that clearly as it was the exact same low temperature as recorded in Woodford not far from me in Jan 2010, and because I was amazed such a location recorded such a low temperature.

yes that was it, as I say I believe it was caused by some sort of sea smoke phenomena probably from the ice in the bay. Makes me feel a bit more positive about living here.

Strangely enough the temperature is rising again, back up to -1.1

Possibly evaporating Will? the dewpoints are still fairly low.. it would be typical really.. the true meaning of a snow dome in effect

Now -0.9.

The tide is coming in, I wonder if that has anything to do with it, or else it's just cloud.

So it's looking like this cold spell will extend through next weekend and possibly further.

So that'll be more dry and sunny weather for us to look forward to!

I know the longer a cold spell lasts the more chance of seeing snow but I can't get excited at the prospect of a sustained N'ly.

Diane Oxberry's at it again.

Apparently we in the North West are living a charmed life as far as weather is concerned and getting the best conditions.

Sorry Diane but I beg to differ on that one.

Pretty well for deep snow, I wasn't around but gaguing by the reaction of older people, 47 and 63 were dream years for snow here.

-17C in the centre of Liverpool? surely not? Unless you mean in general. I do remember leaving my house in the morning after the -10C here and I'd never felt cold like it.. I can't say it was nice for the sake of cold ramping, because to be honest it was the most horrible thing I've ever felt.. extremely painful.

Well its absolutely bloody freezing out there!

Straight to the point! :D

I think it was in general but it was absolutely bitter that night and it was reported as -17. Luckily we warmed up in the pub lol. This pic was my backgarden 18th Dec 2010. Our last decent snowfall.

jus doesn't happen anymore ,drifting is something you do in a skyline GTR now ....

We'll have another 47 or 63 type winter again.

Just like we'll have another 76 summer.

Only problem is when will it happen and will our nerves last that long.
