The most remarkable thing about these past 2 winters, are how severe it's been across North America...and across Scandinavia with large snow fall amounts, yet as is typical here, a dreary boring winter, which was marginally better than last year. Last year saw no snowfall at all (imby) and never even saw a frost at night. This year we have had 8 frost nights, snowed on 26 december 14, for a grand total of 4 hours with about 6cm at most, after it had stopped snowing , it was gone within an hour. The cold has not been 'cold' as in below freezing during any days this past winter. Which makes it also the second winter without a frost day. periodic light snow showers that barely covered the ground, and in sweden that would be called frost not snow haha

Anyway, we are fast approaching from my perspective the end of winter, and one last chance to actually give us more than the 6cm we have had over the entirely of winter, which is a bit pathetic to say the least.

Even spain has out performed us easily in the snow department, zaragoza saw the deepest snow ever recorded there. Even Sevilla in the South has been colder.

I am dubious about any further cold spells, since they have failed to materialize in the last couple of weeks, despite forecasts claiming otherwise. Statistically we have a better chance of a white easter than a white christmas, but again of course that is a stupid claim if you live up a very large hill in the far north of england.

If the cold really does arrive in the coming week, here is to hoping we get a good dumping of snow, its starting to feel to much like tropical :p

A thoroughly boring day to end an increasingly boring month.

True! Hopefully 3 interesting days ahead of us before the boredom returns with a bang!

quite fancy the Serra Nevada and Granada region of Spain :)..

Should be nice. I am going to Holland at the end of April and then Northern Greece in May.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
