Think I will stay inside on Saturday !

Cold remains dialled in.

Some 'Max' temps for Saturday evening.

And a look at the source and potential equivalent temps.

Would think this is now casting PL territory for sure... Little patch of -42 showing on the 12z tonight.

What implications would have a Polar Low? Thanks!

Dollar had recorded 5.5mm at 3.30pm, after two more showers that figure is likely closer to 8 by now.

Cold day, beautiful skies. Looking forward to the weekend more than usual!

Here is a short guide on Polar Lows, they are essentially winter wildcards due to not appearing on standard NWP output.

http://www.zamg.ac.at/docu/Manual/SatManu/main.htm?/docu/Manual/SatManu/

Select Case Studies then Polar Low - original hyperlink to section doesn't appear to be working.

Been a blustery kind of day upnhere, not too cold, a few beefy showers passing through. Looks like it'll be a bit nippy by the weekend with white stuff for some. There's gonna be a few smiley faces on here come Saturday I think!

New winter tyres getting fitted just now. You can blame me if it all goes pear shaped now!

Folks can blame me too. I'm booked in for Friday.

I'm officially on 2 t-shirts as well, which marks the start of proper winter.

When I go to t-shirt + jumper, that's when the fun properly begins.

Signing on for Winter 2015/16, looking good for weekend, been lurking all year.

Dunlop Wintersports D4 been on since last year, excellent tyres, car prefers them to Michelin Primacy 3s sits better on road 5% more fuel consumption though. One and only time on snow last year they were brilliant.

Seasonal weather for the perth Xmas light switch on this Saturday....ironic the early switch on will have such a baltic feel...be nice to have a few flakes blowing through but highly unlikely in a northerly for here...however I'm in Dundee so maybe a few coastal showers be caught there... Great link lorenzo...

-11 uppers anyone and a lovely little low as lorenzo commented on....looking like a 4 day snap/spell with the cold beginning in real earnest on Friday although I looked out the winter coat tonight as felt bitter in the wind today..few charts showing a more NE flow at times which certainly be a bit better for many of us inland and of course less good for other posters...

Reload on the morn's ECM.

You beat me to it. Unfortunately it's the only model showing anything like that, but then again there seems to be no real obvious trend within the models after around Monday so anything is possible at the moment.

A similar morning here to yesterday i.e. Cool at around 5C, bit of a breeze but almost cloudless so sunny. Looks like the approaching 'cold snap' will last from Fri to Mon, with the core of the cold being Sat & Sun.

And not just a reload but a Steve Murr sausage reload...sounds a bit rude that....tis a shame there are no trends as Ravelin says but the old cliché of interesting model watching times very much applies right now

The GFS and ECM aren't a million miles away from each other if you look closely, the 8 to 10 day 500mb are very similar, it's simply "small" differences at the surface:

This morning's +84hrs FAX chart has a huge easterly kink in the isobars, far better than a straight northerly:

Rain bout lost count of the last few weeks hitting us. Weekend looking................interesting to say the least

One thing I have noticed (seems strange no idea if anybody can concur) it's been so mild that i've noticed a tree already attempting to spring into bloom i.e. get new leaves already

One of my clematis, the spring flowering one, still has masses of flowers from a 'second' bloom that started about a month ago. That's going to get a shock!

Well the GFS is trying to follow the ECM's theme this afternoon...

Not as impressive as the ECM's attempt at a reload but interesting to see they both think it's a possibility.

It's currently wet and 3.9C. Wasn't expecting it to get so cold underneath this rain

Ploughing and lifting neeps today in dull, dry calm weather Maximum temperature of 7c, currently 6c much more seasonal temperatures. Redwings, woodpecker pheasants partridges and lots of sparrows among the  feathered visitors to the garden today to the feeder and some  small fallen  fruit under  the trees. About 50 whooper swans (spelling!)feeding in neighbouring stubble fields.Wintering sheep performing acrobatics today, fun to watch, do they sense a change in the weather? I think they do.

Wet cool night here. Not a night for being out & about. Drookit!

Looking forward to the cold spell, interesting if we get reload potential for next week too. It's nice to be back:)
