Rapidly developing cells in the Scottish Borders now heading North. Two cells appearing on the V4 radar, one approaching Edinburgh from the south, the other East Lothian/eastern borders

Looking at the 5 minute radar, looks to all be sliding NE and towards Dunbar as the most western extent that could be effected.

The destruction of the cell to my south is already happening. It is a good sign though that storms are breaking out and I think later on there will be better chance of something more meaty as we see some deep layer shear overlap high CAPE values. They have all been quite short-lived storms so far today.

Today's gonna be a slow burner (pardon the pun) at this rate. Lots of crud about, inhibiting sun and storms - great.

Reckon that cell over the Cotswold initiated due to the cloud breaking?

Well TORRO's forecast shunts it east this afternoon into Yorkshire/Lincolnshire into NE England.

Tornado Watch Issued by Torro - Someone will post the link I am sure

TORRO TORNADO WATCH 2015/001

A TORNADO WATCH has been issued at 1100GMT on Wednesday 1st July 2015

Valid from/until: 1100 - 2359GMT on Wednesday 1st July 2015, for the following regions of the United Kingdom & Eire:

Parts of (see map)

Midlands

N England

THREATS

Tornadoes; hail to 30-50mm diameter, perhaps larger with supercells; wind gusts to 60mph; CG lightning

SYNOPSIS

Hot and reasonably moist plume of air is destabilising with the combination of strong surface heating along with forcing for ascent from approaching upper trough, with a thunderstorm noted in the SW Midlands. Steep mid-level lapse rates /8C per km/ are contributing to around 1000-1500 J/Kg of CAPE, with around 30-40 knots of deep layer shear. Fairly undirectional shear will promote organised multicells and perhaps splitting supercells capable of large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps isolated tornadoes.

Question marks still remain over the extent of thunderstorm development this afternoon/evening across the area, and further afield. Other watches or discussions may be required through the afternoon. too.

Forecaster: RPK

I think you're right. If only the cloud would burn off here, we'd be seeing some yummy stuff developing by now.

Yes certainly looked that way. The sun has broken out here now, although it is still a tad hazy. Temp has risen from 26.5 to 30.2c in about an hour. about 2 degree rise in 30 minutes!

Here's hoping!

Mammatus? Out west.

Sorry it's sideways again, my iPad hasn't picked up the definition on the clouds too well.

That's good news. I can see the clearer sky just to the northeast of me towards Bristol, but still just on the edge of this muck here in Yatton. Fingers crossed for some proper convection this afternoon.
