In all the years I have tried to catch a good lightning strike, downloaded various apps to try and get a shot! My 13 year old daughter has just come down and showed me this taken from her bedroom window on her iPhone!!attachicon.gifimage.jpg

Lovely shot...one to send to the BBC I reckon :D

Yes Chris, keeping my eye on that as it's our only hope, unless something fires up in between the front and the cells to the SE.

Hope it fires up as it heads this way, fingers crossed!

Where is the south and west thunderstorm going my way in Warminster in Wiltshire to night and is still humid and sticky over here and I get over extended about thunderstorms because I got asperger syndrome autism

Unlikely to happen for your location I'm afraid, storms are mainly affecting the South East only tonight. Welcome to the forum btw!

I now think that the zone from say Portsmouth to the Humber could get a storm tonight as as usual they seem to be drifting NE.Anywhere West of that zone will stay storm free.Including here in Derby.

Wooooaha 3 thunderstorms in one night.. I'm happy night gang got some vids most impressive thing is the rain wow

Yeah it rained pretty heavy a few times here. Just about half hour ago or so, the drops were colossal. Sounded like hail at first I went to check but it wasn't.

If she going to do something with weather or storm chasing in the future that's a hell of a beast to start with!

Why are people not hearing thunder with elevated lightning? Surely it can't be that high? You can hear thunder from lightning say 6 maybe more miles away, is the lightning higher up than 6 miles??

Not kidding - I can STILL hear thunder here in Bournemouth! Maybe 'cos the skies are clear and still, thunder from elevated strikes carries a long, long way?

a few lucky ones currently receiving storms in a narrow belt running in a sw to nw conveyor around or to the west of London....great fun for those underneath, but a gnashing of teeth for those to the west and east of this train of thunderstorms

Torrential now, storm directly overhead. Wasn't expecting anything this severe despite the warnings from ESTOFEX! I'll just stand window watch I guess!

Some phenomenally bright lightning from that next line of cells!!! Lighting up the house. The torrential convective busts of heavy rain falling from very agitated looking skies simply isn't sparking - oh, another downpour just starting - how this isn't sparking I will never know .
