Pleased I'm not living next to a rivet in western Scotland, they are certainly going to get hammered over the next 24 hours, followed by Cumbria.

At least we have a couple hours rest bite :/

What is stopping the rain getting over the Pennines? It is actually fairly sunny here in Leeds

Called the rain shadow effect, a dry area to the lee of high ground.

Some pretty spectacular flying going on thanks to the Jetstream...

Yeah that's 100kts above the normal cruise speed.

Good tail wind.

Blustery winds in exceeding 40mph here with sharp showers blowing through.

Heavy rain for the last 3 hrs here in Bingley and nothing 15 miles to the east of here thanks to the rain shadow effect.

GFS still has some worrying rainfall totals for north west Scotland

Around 200m for some parts by next Monday

By d10 the highest totals get above 250mm and widely over 100mm at the same time many parts of England struggle to get 10mm Cumbria looks set for a lot of rain though

Heavy persistent rain but the wind has dropped significantly, until this evening when it's set to ramp up again with a small area east of the Pennines close to 80mph according the NetWx-SR 4km model.
