Early stages but so far it looks to be Wales which is taking the brunt of the rain along with north west Ireland

The amber warning isn't valid until 6pm onwards for NW England and 5pm onwards for N Wales and SW Scotland....So expect the rain will get more persistent later today and overnight, the less we have now is a good thing so perhaps the overall totals over the next 24hrs or so won't be quite as high but we shall see.

The area of rain I've circled in orange is persistent and not really moving any further east the totals in the areas under it will be mounting up now with several hours of persistent rain

Further north in NW England although its breaking up for some parts you only have to look west to see what's still to come

Lack of warnings? Have you not been following the thread or looked at the Met Office website?

what?

Try the front page, watch the regular updates by TV forecasters, go to the Met O web site. What more do you want. Even in the highly charged model thread, forever searching for cold there are charts and comments from folk about the amounts of rain predicted.

An interesting 24hrs coming up, I hope the public take note of the warnings put out, Especially in the flood prone areas.

That rain over north-west Wales has not moved for hours and is intense.

Potentially some very high rainfall totals there...

Yep several hours worth now and its hardly moved from its current position since around 15:30 places like the Snowdonia national park will be getting a right soaking now with no let up in sight

What's the record for the amount of rainfall in one day because its probably likely to be challenged this weekend!

That would depend on location, the record for snowdon will be different to Eskdalemuir.

I am sure monthly records were broken in 2012??

Stay safe folks.

I've just got a coolish night here in Limousin after a 16c afternoon. The Euro "slug" is still hanging in here, but not for long it seems. I'm heading to the UK on Monday afternoon...I want a hubby cuddle by 2100, not a flood delayed train. Things are scary enough over here...

Moderate rain here, I think the concern is the amount of rainfall that is forecast to fall over high ground and then obviously work it's way down into the valleys and watercourses.

What's the record for the amount of rainfall in one day because its probably likely to be challenged this weekend!

We had just short of 90mm in three hours on the 22nd June 2012 and that caused serious flooding both here and over the hill into Calderdale.

We also had some major flooding in the late 60's when about 120mm fell in 24hours.

The current warning for East Lancashire is talking about anything between 150 and 250mm before it stops so even though I can't see that happening, we could still be looking at local records being broken.

All this talk of rain forgot about the wind! Although the rain is the biggest concern over the next 24hrs....Gale force winds affecting Wales and through the channel http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

Quite a marked temperature range across the UK with some parts of Scotland down to 1c and over England and Wales behind the warm front the temp is up to 16c for some... Still the rain keeps coming with plenty more on the way...
