Some lively looking charts cropping up across some of the model outputs, this in particular caught my eye and would likely give storm force winds blasting right through Central Scotland... Probably look different on the next run though but we could be heading towards a very unsettled period of weather.

Where did this spring up from on the GFS

 

 

Tight pressure squeeze bringing very strong NNW winds across many areas.

 

 

A notable westward revision from the GFS 12z here.. further west than the Met Office currently has it but this change/difference seems unusual at only 42 hours out to me, so will be interesting to see the coming model runs and forecast updates and whether it's just a GFS wobbly or not.

 

Probably blizzard conditions over some high ground/mountains too.

Met Office have issued warnings for Wind and Snow for tomorrow night into the first half of Saturday.

12z GFS bring a swathe of very strong N/NW'ly winds southwards Friday into Saturday with gusts 60 maybe 70mph in places, resulting in significant windchill.

Yes an interesting short lived spell of weather. ECM going for a dartboard low next weekend. Deep FI so probably nothing like will materialize but worth watching.

would be good if this verified, get rid of the cobwebs. not sure what kind of wind speeds we'd get with this but it looks pretty potent

The worst of the winds would be for the northern Isles on that chart with storm force winds, a bit far away yet so it'll probably look different on the next run.

A spell of short lived N/NW'ly gales sweeping southwards overnight which could give gusts over 60mph in places and possibly inland for some locations, looks like most of England and Wales will have a spell of strong winds for a time except the far south east. Also temporary blizzard conditions are possible for northern hills.

really strange those showers showing crossing between banbury and northampton n the met office radar have passed directly over me, and i can still see the moon, and have had no precipitation at all.

 

early on this afternoon(2pm), i was hit by hail slightly south of here, and nothing was showing.

It seems (as expected I guess) that the Met Office forecast was correct rather than the GFS for the wind strength this morning. Gusts of 30-45mph generally inland rather than the 55-65mph the GFS was showing.
