Up to half a metre of snow could fall in Scotland's mountains this weekend while cold air will flood south, according to the Met Office.

Gusts not quite as high on the 12z GFS but still around 65-75mph across the north Irish Sea and into S Scotland & N/NW England, also the wind field has been extended slightly further northwards into S Scotland, gusts further south around 55-65mph, perhaps a touch higher in some exposed locations.

The Met Office haven't named it officially Storm Clodagh, wish the press would get their facts right!

The ARPEGE model showing wind gusts a touch higher than the GFS and the depression is further north extending disruptive winds into the Central Lowlands.

Also a more developed area of low pressure that deepens nearly 10mb as it crosses the UK and exits into the North Sea.

Interesting local forecast is having none of the strong winds for tomorrow and to be honest it was right today i.e not windy. Looks like the warning should have been removed for us today for the strong winds looking at the comments along side it i.e winds less than originally thought.

Yeah, surprised the blanket warning covers such a wide area, but I guess if there is a risk they have to cater for it? The warning for tomorrow does state that the strongest winds will affect areas around the north Irish Sea, Dumfries & Galloway, North Wales and NW England. They also stress that some uncertainty remains on precise wind speeds and exact track, further updates will be issued.

I see they've updated it from earlier. I feel that the national forecasts at the moment need more time space everything seems a little rushed and the end result a confused picture for people who don't have access to the information we have. People asking me yesterday will it snow and how much will we get. Snow was never forecast for our region but the speed at which the forecast went through people would have got that impression.

But today the warning needed modifying as it was the coastal regions that got the strong winds.

ECM also going for a more developed storm with a very tight pressure gradient around the southern flank, and a bit further north than the GFS

It has been officially named now.

Clodagh, the third named storm of the extended winter season, will pass eastwards to the north of Ireland on Sunday morning, 29th November. The current Status Orange warning for very strong, westerly winds is a direct result of Clodagh’s evolution. Later Sunday, Clodagh will pass through Scotland and the North Sea towards southern Scandinavia where it is expected to deepen further.

Clodagh...after the river running through Tipperary where my mother was born. Meanwhile here in Limousin - not a bough bends - but it will!

ECM showing a monster depression for next weekend! But as it's a week away it's highly likely it will look different on the next run.

More windy weather tomorrow for Wales and Southern & SW coasts although nowhere near as severe as todays wind speeds, gusts around 50mph or so possibly up 60mph in exposure especially for Wales.

And Bracknell before that :D

I suspect we'll be getting Desmond sooner rather than later. While not quite on the magnitude of some of the gusts seen today, parts of the south will be pretty windy again tomorrow with gusts exceeding 50mph.

Looks bad for the NW of Scotland mean speeds of 40 to 50 mph with exposed parts seeing mean speed of 55 to 65 mph,

Certainly one to keep eyes on this week now the Atlantic is in a boisterous mood! :)

Yep, an unsettled week on the cards with plenty more weather action to come! Not as bad as today though but next weekend could be interesting if the ECM is onto something...
