I actually take my hat off to the CFS, to be honest. It was picking up this exceptionally mild November and December right back in the summer and has stuck with it's prediction ever since. We all thought it had just had a few pints beforehand, but no it was completely right.

A rare hit then.

Another March 2013, minus 14c 850's,  ice days and for some quite a bit of snow with blowing and drifting...   :cold-emoji:

Colder weather post Christmas? Absolutely no if this is to go by. You usually get the mean trending more towards average in FI but not here. Only 3/4 members get to -5c uppers through the entire run.

The anenometer at Svalbard seems to be broken. Latest NOAA hourly report. Is this the first sign of the advection that all cold weather fans are looking for?

Even if there are signs that colder weather is on the horizon now, we all know that the models will probably be showing extreme super-hot 1000C temperatures for the next month by tomorrow morning.

18Z, realistic, westerlies from start to finish, wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to be the most accurate run ever, 18Z of 18th Dec '15

The frogs are croaking their wooing tunes in the pond tonight; there's some seriously confused wildlife around here.

It's 5:45am and outside it's a totally ridiculous 14C. Devastating.

Cairngorm summit is only managing 6.9C. Unbelievable for this time of year really.

Must be very close to a record.

Overnight temperatures across most of Spain last night between 0c & 3c

How can that be, it's just crazy?!

very much agree with you about the all types of weather, thats what makes our weather so interesting! fully understand how the older generation don't like the cold!! I've been watching this site for a few years now before i took the plunge to join and i must say your input has been one one of the resaons i joined. May not agree with some of your views but always enjoy them!

nice of you to say that - cheers!

hmmm... perhaps a slight sign of a change? the anomaly charts appear to suggest a possible first step in the evolution of high pressure building towards scandinavia - i note the ops also hint at something. but currently its only a blip, and the general southwesterly flow still looks set to continue into the new year.

I can remember several very cold & snowy spells that we've experienced in the past.

But, I cannot remember such a sustained period of incredibly mild and benign winter weather conditions here in the South East!

It just goes on and on with no sign of any significant change.

Remarkably mild outside. It wouldn't surprise me if the maximum today is higher than any maximum recorded over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend next year.

Worrying thing is how will flora and fauna cope if we get a sharp cold snap even if only a brief one. The longer this goes on at this level, I feel can't be good further down the line.

Just looked at the latest GFS and it's more of the same for that entire run. Ok, it's mild and wet which in my experience is the 'default' setting here in December. What is remarkable however, is the longevity of this spell of SW'ly weather. A bit like the constant, vile NW'ly flow for months earlier this year. Seems our climate appears to get 'stuck' into a pattern for months before changing to another, equally lengthy pattern.

I like mostly mild temps in winter (with more seasonal snaps thrown in) but this constant wind, cloud and damp is really becoming depressing.

"Devastating"?! Hmm......not sure that's how one would describe it.

13.9c here at dawn! Feels muggy with drizzle. Just looked at the latest temps and they are quite ridiculous for the time of year, the highest I can see is Doncaster @ 17c!!! We've seen lower daily maximums during the summer months... And the LOWEST temp currently is Inverbervie, Scotland @ 10c.
