Yep! It will be quite busy given we are only a few weekends away from Christmas, so many people out and about! Did anyone see the BBC forecast just now with Helen Willetts? 36hrs of heavy rainfall in places along with severe gales, she said right at the end the warnings could be escalated to the next level, quite an appalling weekend of weather!  Although Sunday looks better...

The Irish met mentioned a Red warning for Rain may be issued tomorrow. Miserable 36 hours for those caught underneath it

Crikey, got of lightly today compared to other towns in the local area! Some pics from Cumbria Crack on Twitter, many roads closed and a number of schools will be shut tomorrow, the weekend is looking very worrying.

Keeping my fingers crossed things won't be too bad in London Saturday and Sunday. Going to Winter Wonderland Saturday evening, so would prefer it dry, lol.

Saturday looks horrendous for many. Especially to the NW with rain also massive issue. Even down this far south, a good 24hrs of winds 25mph+ gusting 43-55mph. Hold on to your hats!

The 24hr accumulative rainfall map certainly highlights who felt the wrath of that system.

And then this, highlighting Friday 12pm - Saturday 12pm

Well that's a grim forecast, according to the Met over 24hrs of heavy rain and gales gusting 65 to 70mph from tonight, very concerning given the amount of rain that fell yesterday! I think the rain may be more of an issue but winds of that strength for a prolonged period are bound to lead to some problems as well.

I just found out on the newspaper that the fourth storm name of the season is Desmond. The paper says the govt/met office yet to confirm the naming of storm.

This is a model of max wind gusts by location over the next 72hrs. We're looking at 60-70mph max gusts widely, with 85mph not ruled out for more rural areas. Right in the middle of a busy shopping weekend, too. If the Met Office don't upgrade to an Amber, I'm a turnip.

Will have to wait and see if they do officially name Desmond, last time you said this they actually did name Clodagh.

I think the rainfall may get upgraded to amber if anything as the wind gusts are just on the threshold with the likelihood of some disruption to travel and minor damage etc, if winds were gusting 70-80mph widely then it would probably be amber. We'll have to wait and see what the warning updates say after the chief meteorologist assess the likely impacts.

The warnings are being updated now - http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1449187200

This is the first one for Friday night, the text mentions the next warning that will cover Saturday will have higher impact potential.

Thought the rain would have been given a amber to be honest possible 36 hours of rain

The Irish met office have named him Desmond, so I expect the met office will follow suit? Also Irish met has updated their warnings, Red warning for rain and Orange for wind.

Bomber, where are you? could you put your location into your avatar please? :D
