Blimey, a scary situation developing in Cumbria. Stay safe everyone.

Meanwhile, in Redcar it's the wind that's the main story. It's really ramping up now, the winds are howling around the house and the trees are nearly bent over double lol. The Redcar vertical pier has taken a battering too, which has a last some panels around the top.

Unfortunately yes, rain expected into the early hours and then a lag time before it feeds into rivers etc so they could rise significantly more...

Still some pretty heavy winds here, gusting itno the high 40s and low 50s mph. There was some rain overnight (6.6mm) and the air pressure is actually surprisingly high at 1006 mb.

Thankfully missed the worse of the rain unlike the poor folk further north

Desmond seems to have woken up again after a brief rest. A couple of pretty large gusts and a constant howl again ( apologies to northern friends for calling them large gusts..probably high 40s/low 50s just a bit unexpected )

Man, 90, Dies After 'Being Blown Into Bus'

A 90-year-old man has died after apparently being blown into the side of a bus by a gust of wind as Storm Desmond hit the country.

The pensioner died near Finchley Central station in north London, said a Scotland Yard spokesman.

The storm has brought strong winds and heavy rain, causing Cumbria - one of the worst-affected areas - to declare a "major incident".
