The ongoing strong PVA/Vortmax is relentless up in that part of the UK. It's not surprising the rain is consistently heavy, and likely to pep up as well.

One of the main roads out of Cumbria now impassable, all routes into Kendal apparently closed.

Definitely going to get worse before it gets better. More than 12 hours of heavy rainfall still to come, and all that rain over the mountains then has to filter down through the streams and rivers.

To be honest, those accumulation numbers are pretty conservative in my view, you're going to get 200mm+ in places.

its not filtering down anything now, its just running off the moutains by any and every route - looking at the webcams, fields are completely saturated and have watercourses all over them.

Not good news to all and on the BBC a couple of locals from Keswick have stated that although the new glass panel flood defences are holding back the water, the river level may soon top them.

you also have the wind effect, it will be pushing the lake upwards to that end.

Seeing videos on Facebook of people driving through floodwaters thinking that a 4x4 is immune to it. Don't take the risk!!!

Conditions later are going to be horrendous. I hope lives are not lost and the puplic listen to the warning and not take any chances.

The flood defences to to which I refer are at a bend on the river not far from the town centre (rather than at Derwentwater). I've been down there a few times in the summer when the river has been at "normal" levels and struggle to picture the river at such a height that it could overtop the glass panels on the wall. I'm hoping it doesn't but with hours more rain I fear very bad news for Keswick and many of the towns in the Lakes.

Edit: in the length of time it took me to write this it seems my post is now outdated as the defences have been beaten .

Looks like it has already topped the walls in Keswick from that picture above?
