A warm and humid night is on the way for most of England and Wales with temperatures in some places not dropping below 17c or 18c

25C, lots of sunshine and just had a yummy BBQ outside. Is it really August, feels more like summer than autumn :D

yes, ideal summer day, still autumn like synoptics though, gales for our locations tomorrow, but summer temp wise, we'll get around 21° tomorrow, and no rain I hope

Yes, absolutely. This sort of day suits most people, not being too warm or humid, lovely. Need a month of this now please.

A shame about tomorrow really..

A grey start for most of us, but it should burn away by the afternoon.

Tomorrow looks fine - sunny spells and 21C here. Only problem will be the wind but it shouldn't be too bad until evening time.

In fact, cloudier mornings and sunnier afternoons is exactly what we should get - but over recent years it seems like we get sunny mornings and cloudy afternoons, which is annoying.

Have noticed that too in recent summers. Sunny early on then infill quickly covers the sky only to dissipate in the evening. Didn't used to get so many days like that, like you say it was the other way around. Wonder why?

The first image suggests an easterly drift with cloudier mornings giving way to sunny afternoons and probably a good deal more sunshine than that in the west.

The recent chart for 2007 to 2015 shows an anomalous cold upper airmass which will be very cloudy during the daytime due to convective infill. You probably get temperatures that are not hugely different but what people see with their eyes will be enormously different.

^^ this post by Nouska explains things.

Agree,August can spike to produce high temps, but they won't last, just like later winter can have a cold snap. To me it's much nicer to have this kind of warm spell now,not as intense and the holiday period is in full swing so one heck of a lot easier on both parents and kids when its not so hot.

The hottest temperatures ever recorded have occurred at this time of year. Early August is still very much high summer.

Indeed, that's an odd post. Nearly all heat records in the UK have fallen in early August. The first week of August is prime time for heat.

Here are the top 10 warmest months in the UK since 1900:

July 2006 19.7

July 1983 19.5

August 1995 19.2

August 1997 18.9

July 1976 18.7

August 1975 18.7

July 1995 18.6

August 1947 18.6

July 1921 18.5

August 2003 18.3

A better day here than I thought it would be. Quite a lot of cloud but some sunny spells and feeling pleasantly warm at 24C currently.

Ok so today's GFS charts don't compare to 1995, but they would probably provide some of the best August high pressure dominated charts since then.

This weather is far from normal here. The min last night was 19.1C, which is the warmest on record of any month. The previous record high minima was 18.4C on 10th August 1991.

This post really does sum up what I have felt for a while.
What happened to our summers.
Now we know humid cloudy ish SW winds dominating the weather.
It seems rare to get any sea breezes these days and I live right on the coast.

Low here was 17.2C which is nothing remarkable. High today so far is 21.5C which is normal for the time of year.
