couldn't resist escaping my windowless office here at London Bridge around 25 minutes ago, so grabbed my umbrella and popped out.  Pleased I did, as there was plenty of thunder, along with a few good flashes of lightning.  Hope they are still rumbling on when I leave work at 4.30pm!

Closest CG yet just then, very bright overhead flash and instant shotgun thunder, men working outside digging the road must have got a brief shock!

Looks like it's all going a bit quiet. Gone dark here in Watford, and very quiet with little breeze and no bird noise either.

Can see what I thought was weakened has actually strengthened again but doesn't look electrified

Not much showing on radar but heavy rain just started and 6/7 claps of thunder heard in the past 10 mins. If only it waited another couple of hours I'm halfway through cutting the lawn!

Getting really still here now - bit ominous cod I'm in a field to the north of Harpenden. No thunder yet but might move somewhere a little less open if things kick off here

When that conective cloud moves nearer to Birmingham you watch things go flash bang wallop due to the heat island effect.

But London hardly ever gets storms!?

okay you get one or two 'proper' storms a year but generally I've found london to have a little shield of its own

Nope, wrong in experience we tend to do rather well, compared to most of the country. The 'land track' of the SE before reaching London may help also UHI - aids in breaking that cap. Although it may be a conducive breeding environment for more severe storms affecting the Midlands further north.

Urban locations tend to see more potent storms?

Just had a close CG - and a blinding flash.

Storm fight over head now, luckily it's not frequent lightning, got to go pick up my kids now. Bad timing, I do not go out in storms.

Yes, I'd recommend finding somewhere safer if things kick off. Got to put your own health first mate. Are there any barns or nearby buildings you can take shelter in?

The development of that storm just over the channel is insane, became very severe, very quickly.

Where is it, not coming this way to I hope

Most models seem to keep the Midlands fairly dry during the rest of daylight hours. However the Midlands looks a good spot for night time activity tonight. Think here may be a bit too far west but somewhere between Birmingham and Leicester would be a good shout imo. Might still catch something distant here though. :)

These thunderstorms haven't abated the heat or humidity a jot. Just as warm and (unsurprisingly) even more humid outside. Still getting some awesome CGs across London (a +CG just then!)

Still sporadic IC lightning here and thunder. Looks like we havent seen the last of it yet.

These storms remind me of buses. You wait absolutely ages for them and then several come at once!

So jealous of the south right now!  There's explosive development out west to me but seem to fizzle as they move east - so close but not quite!

That cell to the west of Middlesbrough looks a right little beast if it can maintain some energy for that area soon...

Check out that storm over France right now!!!

Got thunder without any rain, so I can play 'chicken' with the lightning without worrying about getting wet:good:
