Sleet, rain and soft hail, which sounds quite exciting but it's not.

And another thing... why so many Xmas cards covered in bloody glitter this year? Be hoovering and wiping the stuff up till next xmas at this rate.

Shhhh pretend it's fun and festive - if you let people know it's irritating then....... https://www.glitterretribution.co.uk/glitter-bomb-letter/

Of course.... you can always use the service after Christmas to send lovely bombs of glitter to people who sent you glittery Christmas cards......

(or for some reason - a potato.....)

Wet windy, sleety and cold. Hope there is no snow on the horizon, as I am out of action.

Mono-ski? :cc_confused:

Been clear and sunny here, not a hint of anything snow-like. Could get chilly here tonight if it doesn't cloud over.

looking at a very unsettled period of weather over the next week or so, with a number of wind warnings issued already. A series of low pressure systems passing to the north of Scotland will bring some very windy conditions, with spells of heavy rain and thundery showers with lightning at times, especially across the north and west. There is the potential for disruption to ferries and air travel to/from the islands at times, and to power supplies from the wind and lightning. In addition, colder conditions will mean that showers will turn wintry at times, with snow on high ground.

To raise awareness of the increased potential for disruption to travel and power supplies on Friday and into early Saturday, an Amber Warning for Wind has just been issued for northern and western Scotland. This weather system has been named Storm Barbara.

To the forecast, and a band of heavy rain, accompanied by strengthening winds, will move eastwards across Scotland during this afternoon. The winds will be especially strong across the Western Isles, where gusts could reach 60-70 mph in places through this morning and the early afternoon.  The band of rain will clear eastern areas later this evening.

Behind today’s band of rain, we have some much colder air and Wednesday will be a day of strong winds and blustery, increasingly wintry, showers.  The showers are expected to heavy at times with some thunder and lightning likely.  There will be snow over the hills and even to low levels, more especially in the north.

A Yellow warning for Wind for the northwest of Scotland on Wednesday/Thursday was issued yesterday. This highlighted the potential for gusts of up to 60mph forecast from 0600 on Wednesday until 1800 on Thursday evening.  The warning text also highlights the issues of some snow, overnight ice and lightning during this period. The combination of differing weather elements have the potential to cause disruption to travel and power across the affected areas. No significant changes are expected to this today.

While the warning focuses on the northwest it will be windy with blustery, sometimes wintry, showers in most other areas too.

It will continue to be windy through Thursday evening and into Friday morning, with showers largely restricted to the north and west. However, another stormy period will spread in from the Atlantic during Friday and into Saturday. A narrow band of heavy rain will quickly sweep eastwards on Friday, with blustery heavy showers following behind. Again, this will be accompanied by strong winds, with gusts to 60-70mph across all parts of Scotland, and gusts to 80-90mph across the Highlands and Islands through much of Friday and overnight into Saturday morning.

An Amber Warning for Wind (Storm Barbara) has been issued for the Western Isles, Northern Isles and the Highlands, to reflect the potential for 80-90mph gusts. This is assessed as a medium likelihood of medium impacts, and is valid from 1200 on Friday until 0600 on Saturday.

A Yellow Warning for Wind has also been issued for the rest of Scotland (plus northern England and Northern Ireland). This warns of gusts of 60-70mph, is assessed as low likelihood of medium impact and is valid from 0900 on Friday until 0900 on Saturday.

These wind strengths will cause disruption to travel (including on cross border routes) and power supplies.

The latest forecast indicates that another low pressure system will pass to the north of Scotland on Christmas Day, and this looks likely to give more very windy conditions across the country, particularly across northern Scotland. This will continue to be monitored, but there is currently the potential for this to be another named storm.

Sleety, rainy, hail and a wind that wid cut ye in three! Temp has dropped to 3c with a wind chill of -1. So, is there going to be a storm on Christmas day or not? XC and Metcheck tell me winds will be 5mph to a possible 15mph. That's hardly a storm now is it? Anyhoo, seein' as we are definitely getting a blast from Barbara, yesterday I defrosted the Christmas bird, cooked it last night and now it is back in the freezer ready to be de-frosted and warmed up for the big day. Canny be too careful seein' as how there is a strong likelihood we could be without power on the 25th. Hope not!

It was snowing fairly heavily around Moy on the A9 mid afternoon, road suddenly turned from black to white - then by Slochd Summit it was dry again and the road was completely black on the Slochd Dual Carriageway. Few flurries in Aviemore, but nothing more so far.

Definitely lightning being detected - looks like we have a participant near Fort William who must be having great fun this morning.
