One of the biggest points is that the ground is saturated in most places, and it won't take a huge gusts to uproot a whole load of trees.

100km/h is about 55mph?

Think it's way stronger than forecast unfortunately. However considering warnings I think the met thought it would be.

Nothing significant here in Essex yet but wind trying to pick up and had a heavy downpour earlier, latest TV forecast suggesting 50 - 70 mph even for us in the southern half of the country.

i'm on an exposed position on Solway coast (Maryport) - windy but nothing unusual yet. Perhaps strongest winds will be further south.

81mph gust recorded on Isle of Portland according to xcweather, is an exposed site, but seems rather high?

I'm up on Tyneside at the moment and I fully expect the wind to pick up as it turns westerly, could be quite gusty for a while but any westerlies can tend to be gusty anyways if its a true stright westerly as the winds bounces over the Pennines.

Well to say that I'm in the Amber warning area, it's a fairly non event so far in Redcar. I can only guess the centre of the storm has tracked slightly further south which has taken us away from the strongest winds. There's still time I guess so I could be talking nonsense ?.

I agree with Mapaznt, this is much stronger on the south coast than expected. One of the strongest of the winter here. I would have thought 80mph at the Needles easily.

That is very impressive must have been from the squall! Estofex highlighted the threat of severe gales.

Levels 1 and 2 were issued for SE UK, N France, Benelux and NW Germany mainly for severe wind gusts.

A level 2 was issued for the English Channel, France and Benelux to address the severity of the wind gusts. Non-convective severe wind gusts may as well verify in areas S-SE of the level 1 area drawn.

Just had an very short but intense thunderstorm pass south of Brum city centre. Several very bright flashes of lightning with quite loud thunder. Probably woke some people up I should imagine! Looks like we've got some more heading in from the West.

Right, so thanks to those Brum reports, that's definitely a squall line with electric potential NW of Kettering, and not a very ominous succession of power flashes indicating an imminent loss of power, then!
