Why on earth did the met Office expand that ice warning right over the whole of Yorkshire? The showers all stuck to where the original warning was, getting no further than about Bradford before fizzing!

Isn’t it for the frontal system arriving tomorrow?

Forecast still showing snow at first tomorrow but if it's rain now then how can it be snow tomorrow. Milder air already arriving by the looks of it. Well above freezing temps and dew points already now

Different system tomorrow. Temps will drop again after midnight tonight.

They updated this morning's warning for the showers, originally it was for the pennines only but expanded it right to the east coast. It expired at 12pm

Chucking it down now it's too warm to snow. More organised now on radar. Typical! 😢

The joys of an occluded front. Snowing at the cat and fiddle which shows how high you need to go.

I'm not seeing anything for tomorrow however the localized Meto forecast looks pretty good.

Hard to believe we are going to see 4 hours of snow at times heavy.

Unless the Met Office app has been upgraded in the last few years it shows freezing rain as snow. Dec 18 we had a warning for freezing rain, heavy snow symbols on the app and we got freezing rain.

Other problem , yet to see any of the short range models showing anything more than really fragmented and weak precipitation tomorrow .

Yes tomorrow is tricky could be one of those horrible ice fests that we rarely have.  The things against it is that rain could be light and the timing being after midday and afterwards here so the temps could be high enough to prevent freezing rain by then. Tonight's rain could well cause a major ice issue tomorrow morning washing away and grit on the road and making pavements icy as well.

Dec 18 was a bit of a chicken up forecasting wise as they pushed for Snow mainly and carried on with the snow for high ground through out and I don't think anywhere in England was having Snow, well perhaps a few places in the far north England but that was it. Round here it was strange as the ice wasn't wide spread i.e you would have some ice on the top of a wall but the pavement was simply wet mostly bar the odd spot.

Round here the Beeb forecast says a brief spell of sleet then light rain. Met office shows light snow turning sleet then light rain.

The other issue the rain is well behind the cold uppers for South Yorkshire but better of course the further north you go. If it slows down further it could just be plain rain with the air temps to high for freezing rain.

Regarding your prior question the feature bringing the front today formed a surface high to the south east and turned the winds SW bringing higher dew points. To the north of our feature is polar maritime sourced air. Our front tomorrow draws a surface south Easterly so actually has a better undercut even if the weight of the system then pushes through.

There's definitely chance coming up to Christmas for somewhere in the North of England northwards to see a significant spell of snow. So while Sunday is looking like a dud there's more chances.

This will be again, i promise you. Yet another huge met office fail! They are simply covering their backs.

There will be no snow, it will be rain. And no freezing rain at that. 3-12cm of snow. OH COME OFF IT. all charts show a patchy band of rain moving through.

This was meant to be a significant snow event turning to rain. Again what a waste of a cold spell to go out on a dud.

Why that band of rain de-intensifies is sods law. If it were mild, that front would be bringing in heavy rain.

All believable really isnt it. Weve even just had a rain shower here with still some white frost pockets on the ground.

Weve had proper snow events here in the last few years with no warnings at all, but at least had the uppers in place. Take it down meto. Its laughable.

Freezing rain maybe , but no chance of snow after 12, as the 850 temps will be positive, so impossible. So Met Office App is just faulty.

Hi Kasim. Would you say Leeds is at risk of this or more exposed parts?. Thanks

Definitely the whole of Leeds at risk but moreso country roads and rural areas, freezing rain is so deceiving it can suddenly appear in places that have local cooling effects so very localized.
