hopefully dry day tomorrow to charge car for 12+ hours... battery is playing games as not run out much since before Christmas

not looking forward to inches of rain next week... looking more wintry from Wednesday afternoon onwards...

See @carinthian post in mod thread. Interesting times. When you want something it normally goes South so law of Sod says it will stay North.

I wonder if we'll  get a piece of the pie this week. - Could be in with a chance for once due to the SW direction as the cold air seems to swoop down south before emerging on a pivot - could be wrong though.

Looks good for the whole of Cumbria as well for a change. Too far away to get excited yet tho!

So far this winter, we've managed to escape any serious flooding issues (rare in this days...), alas Tuesday and into Wednesday could bring a deluge to the Lake District. Thankfully the ground is not particularly saturated, indeed we've had a relatively dry 3 weeks or so, but expecting some localised flooding if the amounts as forecast come to fruition.

Indeed the next few days look like delivering quite extremes, a generally benign couple of days coming up, then a potential rain fest, followed by a possible snow fest..

Just noted that there maybe a major snow even further south on 23/1.

Cheltenham vs Man City that day.  You couldn't make it up.

Heights are extremely low on gfs 18z > so -4 uppers would be ample for a 300m Freezing level, in this non evap cooling set up so discount anything higher

They could do an Oldham and switch to the Etihad.

Oldham should have been at Boundary park and ended up at Bournemouth.

Saw the fields around over the tops (Woodhead rd/cemetery rd) Wednesday were already flooded/saturated so rain not really welcome.... snow very much welcome ❄️❄️❄️❄️ Third time lucky after two fails in a row... let’s hope Yorkshire don’t steal/hoard our snow this time

Not quite the New York scenes from The Day after Tomorrow and I doubt we’ll be seeing a storm surge smashing against Blackpool Tower but an interesting few days coming up later in the week with a lot of rain and maybe some flooding followed by colder conditions with the rain turning to snow.

how much snow, and rain for that matter is up for grabs at the moment but it’s looking like an interesting spell of weather all the same.

Old wives tale.       My knees have started aching today.   Does anyone else have this problem when rough weather is coming?

There is every chance of a snow event for areas on the northern flank of the low but I think for the vast majority it will be rain and lots of it potentially

Ideally you don't want then low to deepen as it crosses the UK and ideally angled to keep as much mild air as far south as possible. Sadly I think the rapid cyclongenisis is likely because we are seeing a mix of cold and mild air into the system but if this clears well out into the north sea, a cold northerly could follow but if it stays too close to the UK then the cold air will struggle to make much inroads.
