Up to 7 hours of heavy snow now

weekend onwards could be epic not sure we need that much snow at the moment but we can’t pick what we get in either case

You'll get pasted tonight. Looks an active front with more than 10cm I reckon. I'd be more shocked if you didn't in Moorside.

So.. does that mean i get 3.5 hours being half your ASL?

I reckon you will get the same amount of snow just a longer period of ice pellets afterwards.

@Scott Ingham has just replied to my personal message.

His mum is in an ICU with COVID. He mentioned it last week and things are in the balance.

Bloody hell that's sad . I 'd seen a few messages relating to COVID but didn't realise that.

Fingers crossed for the guy & his mum.

An area of snow is expected to move north across northern England during Tuesday morning before easing and clearing from the south into the early afternoon. 3-8 cm of snow is likely across the area with 10-15 cm in places - mainly above 200 m.

I'll echo those thoughts, hopefully she can recover and we get Scott contributing again because he has been a welcome addition to the forum that is for sure.

As for tonight, just does not feel cold enough here and looking at the temperatures coastal areas might just get rain all the way. Be interesting how thay front develops on the radar, if you didnt know, you think it looks like a slider but it's not!

So sliders stop a few miles south of us and now an amber is up the road in Bolton. Give me strength.  Edit: just saw that about Scott's mother I hope she's okay it certainly puts our weather gripes into perspective.

I mentioned earlier the UKMO does not have positive uppers on its 24 hour chart for the region unlike the GFS and to a lesser extent the ECM so maybe that model is forecasting marginally colder uppers tonight and it's making a difference hence the warnings.

The warnings map do show nicely that anyone low down and near the sea, very unlikely too see anything to write home about, it definitely does not feel all that cold here.

The location of that amber warning is very interesting indeed, I would have thought that would have been set for much further north & East.

I’m gobsmacked. What on earth are the Met seeing that the models aren’t. Just looks too warm. I thought Amber down the centre of the country.
