All gloom in the MT, may enjoy what pitiful snow we get this week, however little that may be 😞Screenshot_20240113_065555_BBCWeather.thumb.jpg.04e69017ee102f43d507ce5fdc47d8ff.jpg

There’s a decent chance of snow Sunday Night -> Thursday. Just enjoy it. Some time after Thursday it’s back to the usual crap for a while, so if you like wintery weather just appreciate the next 4/5 days.

Hope for those of us on the eastern side of the island on Wednesday as Icon predict the low to be a bit more northerly. That looks like it could throw snow our way. I think that most northern areas will see snow on Monday too. Hope for us all?

Yes possibly. I'm looking at wind direction, thickness and 850's. It would be a bit shocking to me if the chart I posted verified without a few localised disturbances in the flow. Game on if ICON is to be believed. Let's see what GFS says.

Met Office update looks appalling after all the teleconnections hype.

Only scattered wintry showers with rain or sleet mid week.

Absolute joke.

Air is slack most of the time, colder uppers are there most of the time (for several days). Seeing a few flakes would be nice, but not expecting it.

Slightly scundered (I don’t tend to talk about it outside my writing life) Amazon page here with samples but happy to DM a PDF/e version (once I dig the files out) if it’s your kind of thing

There are tentive signs that HLB may return as we enter Feb. Winters not over yet folks! 🙂

I think I’d rather just live with the “certainty” of wind and rain at this stage. I’ve no energy for another chase 😂

Substitute “mild” for “death” in the following caption. Lord of the Rings types will get it 😆IMG_1409.jpeg.b04f4618442103786814a38784d82d38.jpeg

Sure, there were tentative signs of deep prolonged cold about a week ago, and that went down the pan quickly.

I have very little confidence in these GWO, EAMT, MT teleconnections as they only give a broad brushstroke of where highs and lows might be.

What we see, is that a wee short wave can override these macro teleconnections and provide something far less potent.

Its really is getting to the stage of is there any point looking at long range mods anymore, for winter anyway!

Well, I think it's more a case of understanding that a positive High Greenland anomaly does not necessarily mean a good snowy spell.

Yes. Even Newtownards has a good bit of showery activity for Monday.

I think sea surface temperatures are still above average for this time of year. That coupled with the low 850 temperatures may give more beef to the showers?

The problem is the thicknesses,  we're only under sub 528dm from mid Wednesday to mid Friday so I fear any precipitation will be rain or sleet before then, unless you live up a hill.

Fingers crossed and hopefully someone gets a decent flurry or two.
