Not a bad show along the Dorset coast early part of last night finally breaking my t-storm drought. Not frequent enough to get out of bed to watch the action from the window mind, but a few pretty close flashes and bangs.

Good to see my fellow Wiltshire weather watchers got in on the action later in the night.

The heaviest rain stayed out in the channel. When I woke up at 1.30 to check the radar, seeing what was in the channel, I was bracing for an absolute deluge but it fizzled out somewhat upon hitting the coast.

Now just the usual post storm clag left behind. Just waiting for that to clear and it should be quite a nice day along the coast. Not expecting storms here today with the convergence zone likely to be inland. Maybe tomorrow will give us another chance.

Very different view to last weekend, after early morning mist has risen, and light patchy rain seems the order, but little like has been forecast with suggestions of up to a 100mm in places, not yet... and I suspect storms this afternoon will be land based rather than feeding in off the channel.

Somewhat of a damp squib in this area.  A few distant flashes, no thunder heard at all, virtually all the rain went to north and east of here.  Total to 09.00GMT was a paltry 7.8mm.

Dull and breezy here if the sun breaks through through it could be quite warm but I think it's looking unlikely .

Amazing how quickly things change weather wise.

A few more rain showers would be useful but we shall see.

Incredible Night of storms.
Some of the loudest thunder I have heard in a long time.

Wait for the boom after the initial thunder.
Fromey, Andy, Tom and other local people did you hear this too….

Good to have some cool weather, now maybe indoors will cool off, still at 26.2°C with the windows open BUT the lack of any breeze is not helping to shift the hot air ..

Looking in the channel there's another band moving up. Will it get here you think?

Unlikely. We needed the Sun to come through and some convergence for something home grown today.

We're too far North for the Sun that you probably have and you're too far South for any convergence unfortunately.

I mentioned this in the Storms and Convection thread and was basically told to disregard it which is fair enough.

Wasn’t thinking it would bring any t-storm activity with it but was wondering if the rain did reach the south coast whether it could pep up. Very pleasant but muggy afternoon here.

Not sure if I recall exactly but there were some potent booms.

Looking at it , suspect some time around 7pm, but not looking stormy on the coast just some additional rainfall

Paul S just pinged this through from Torro...

2021/024

Convective Discussion–

15:36 BST Sat 24 Jul 2021 – 22:00 BST Sat 24 Jul 2021

Areas affected

Parts of southern England

Parts of SW England

Parts of S Wales

Hazards

Isolated brief tornadoes

Heavy rain

CG lightning

Gusty winds

Discussion

Cloud is breaking to allow spells of sunshine to develop across southern Britain. This should allow several hundred J/Kg of CAPE to develop, perhaps 700-800 J/Kg in a few places. One or more low-level convergence zones should develop, mainly due to sea breeze boundaries. With low cloud bases and decent low-level convergence, any showers or thunderstorms which develop along or close to these boundaries will have a chance of producing a few funnel clouds, and perhaps one or two brief/weak tornadoes.

Gusty winds and locally heavy rain will be possible, with a few thunderstorms possible too bringing CG lightning.

Activity should wane through the evening.

All inland I suspect...and to a lesser degree than suggested as the heat disappates rapidly from the day..

Heard the thunder from the Cranbourne cell at 5ish, but have come in to watch the Lions. Torn between clouds and Rugby.

@offerman certainly did, I was up from 4:30am just watching, looking like some convection taking place now, not sure it will amount to much, bit late in the day, we will see.

clouds bubbling up fast now the sun has come out

I think it's safe to say that the Weston-super-Mare storm/snow shield has done its job again.

Very disappointing couple of days, especially when in the high risk zones.
