Young Mr Northernlights cleared the farm road at lunchtime so we have a few piles of snow at Christmas to build snowmen Warmer this evening at -2c and we have  a band of snow showers from the north coming in a cross the Firth

The GFS 12Zs take on the 'mild spell' for around here... 

Makes you wonder about why there was so much wailing and nashing of teeth in the MOD thread over the  'breakdown' along with at least one "no quick route back to cold from that chart" comment a couple of days back. 

Edit: I suppose compared to recent temperatures that is mild.

Well we may have managed an ice day in Pittenweem which is a very rare event. Max was -0.5c. It’s only -1c at the moment so not a given we’ll stay below 0c through Midnight but I’m hopeful! Not bad given there is no snow cover and we’re a stones throw from the North Sea!

A pasting earlier as we headed to a hospital appointment, 15cms fell over a wide area it seems. Around 25cm+ cover in areas now

Temp just went -ve now, it's settling for now 

On another subject (an old favourite).... we're burning well-seasoned elm just now and it's really putting out some heat. Shame it's such a bugger to cut and split. I was burning some crappy old (very dry) softwood recently - waste from recent joinery works - and it vanishes so quick and barely heats the stove. It was free tho!

Some short sharp snow showers this evening, maybe something more substantial later this evening.

Me thinks I prefer the reflected glow of old sodium lamps over the new fangled LED ones...

Much warmer than last night, currently -5c compared to -11 at the same time last night.

Another ice day and the dusting of snow From Saturday hasn't melted at all. - 9c last night and Freezing fog for most of the day which has just lifted. The trees look spectacular in the dark so should be some great views in the morning! - 6c when I took this photo about an hour ago.

A good 10cm of lovely fluffy powder has fallen on the steps at the back door since I shovelled them this morning and still snowing lightly. 

I had to go to Fraserburgh this morning and although there wasn't much snow, it was pretty icy - this chap was entertaining to follow back. Full bore bouncing off the rev limiter as he slithered up every slight hill at walking pace! We eventually got bored and trundled past in the pickup.

That’s the snow back on in westhill Aberdeenshire - light at the moment. Will see what it amounts to overnight.

Big blob descending on you. Seems to have broken up further west so we've only had a dusting this evening. Lots of shower activity to the north though so no 8dea wht well look like in the morning. Lots of Aberdeenshire schools have already taken the decision not to open tomorrow, citing current road conditions and overnight forecast.

Yup - getting heavy now - morning commute is going to be interesting to say the least

I hate boasting, but it is a pretty impressive shower i'm under just now. I think my dog can sense my giddy behaviour, lead in mouth, wagging his tail. If he insists.

Random blobby showers on a slack northerly flow don't seem to make it here. Either a trough, or a stronger feed needed. That's about it - I can't remember the last time we had snow from any other direction. Easterly, pah. NIMBY

Another dry cold one today, a rise and repeat of yesterday except the thermometer hasn't risen above -4 deg/C all day.
