Three ice days this week, a lowest minimum of -10.1C and now, finally, the whumphing has arrived. Around 4 inches (so far) on the level. Still sub-zero and still snowing, too.

Classic East Neuk snowfall, blink and you’ll miss it, these photos taken 6 hours apart (0630 and 1230). Still it’s more than I see in some winters so I’ll take it!

Looking ahead, after a further whumphing on Sunday, a mild snap for a few days and then it looks very much like a form of 'cold zonality' over the Crimbo hols. We could do well even with a more westerly component in the mix.

Looking even further ahead, the form horse has been 'stuck' weather patterns for quite some time. 

So, rinse and repeat of variations of the cold theme onwards into January, February... and so on.

1978-79 redux anyone?

Really heavy snaw now falling... it keeps changing from big flakes to really fine flakes so im assuming that means its marginal here now.

If this is all i see out of this cold spell then its been great. Day after day of hard frosts and ice days followed by a heavy snaw fall all in the first 16 days of winter in Perth...

Snow back on again in Dundee, I think we are sitting around 8cm here

Just back home after abandoning the job just outside Saline. Fife was quite snowy on leaving at half 9, but over the other side of the M90 it was pretty bad, lorries stuck on hills and a gritter with no grit.got to the bottom of the farm track but there was no way my Transit was getting up there. -1c Back past a frozen Loch Leven it was turning to rain and +2c.  Raining in Windygates and +3c.

This lot is getting a bit sleety when not heavier and the temp has crept up to +0.5C. No sign if any dripping yet though.

Snow falling is a bit wet now. Was away to post a few Christmas cards through some neighbours and friends doors but will postpone until it either turns back to snow proper or dries up. Near the Ochils certainly was a sweet spot. Pic from my daughters pal in Dunblane who is coming up to visit her tonight assuming roads are ok.

Its a bit marginal here now... sleety pish with the odd burst of snaw. When it is snaw the flakes are massive. Like handkerchiefs falling from the sky.. its been a great day. The dogs had fun I've had fun and most importantly the kids have had fun and will always remember the day that dad closed school for a snaw day..❄❄

Some superb photos on show today.  Great to see so much of the country with a wee blanket on.  Hopefully the kids will get out to enjoy it while it’s here.  Must admit it’s been a pretty decent start to the Winter season although it would have been nice to have been a week later.  
It does look like we will need to enjoy it while it lasts though.  Hopefully next week just a blip before we get another blast.

This was the snow at its absolute peak intensity here not far from Perth. 3cm fell in the space of half an hour around the time of this video

@101_Northcouldn't recommend Budapest enough... fantastic city with the most beautiful architecture I have seen and really friendly people...some snow at the markets would have been the icing.

While it has turned into a wintry mix in low ground and near the coast Highland Perthshire is getting hammered just now. Here is the A9 a couple of miles North of Dunkeld. Side roads are worse.

Side roads here in Dundee are treacherous with the old ice covered by snow and slushy stuff. If there is more snow or it freezes will be fun first thing tomorrow. I am off to Aberdeen to visit my daughter so hoping that the main roads are ok.She says thay are all clear at her end.

Bit of a non even here. Some light to moderate snow overnight and early morning but it only gave a light covering before quickly thawing when it turned to sleet. It's currently raining with just some patchy slush left.

Clicked on link expecting ‘heavy snow video’ to be a few big snowflakes. Wasn’t disappointed. Probably one of the heaviest snow videos I’ve seen. Very impressive! 

It’s one of the rare times I thought the clip was too short. Could have been two minutes long and I’d have watched til the end...many times lol.

Thanks for sharing. I was going to post a pic of my brothers garden in Killearn but after this I don’t think I’ll bother

Snow opportunities on or very close to Christmas day not to be ruled out  

Recorded the most intense of the snow rates on the Oban cam through the night

Don't think they witness these scenes often especially as they are literally sea level

Hi all, still lurking...

 

Awoke from summer slumber and been meaning to post since. Great start to winter here.  Picture from front garden couple nights ago. Hard frost all day, but stayed dry here. 

Picture of "unusual " icicle from friends in East Lothian. Little snow there it seems. And Picture this afternoon looking out the window to Loch tay from family, not that you can see the loch today!
