Wow! Absolutely torrential now! Temp dropped to 17.4°C Thunder/lightening very close now. Weirdly met office map not showing anything close to me but radar spot on.

As expected, a claggy morning with a few spits and spots of rain, barely reaching the ground. If the sun comes out it'll be a minor miracle...

A great few hours of lighting and thunder here from about 1am onwards, ending with a massive storm with constant T&L and heavy rain around 3:15 that lasted for a good 45 mins.

Got woken by a couple of rumbles at about 1.30am and some lovely rain but nothing overhead. Met have taken away much of the rain for today and any storms, Beeb still going with a rainy day and storms.

Good morning all, very much calm before the storms today. Listening to the weather just now..pretty much all of us getting storms from lunchtime onwards. Torrential rain, strong wind bursts and the possibility of damaging hail was mentioned too. Look forward to all the pics later.

I got a bit of stuff from my phone but video called my friend half way through the storm so should also have some stuff on my cameras once I look through all the footage. Might have to mute the clips when I get them with my friends inappropriate language ha ha (okay and maybe mine as well).

My friend also got something with the storm much closer to them.

Looks like we had some decent rainfall over night here, was fast asleep so not sure if there was any thunderstorm.

We had 2 separate little thunderstorms pass between brighton and worthing last night around 1-2am, had about a dozen flashes and rumbles in both of them, and torrential rain. Not the best but a start I guess.

A couple videos from one of my cameras. Ignore me in the background of one or two of them, had to crop it quickly so I didn't get the delayed reaction of my friend I was calling who saw them as well.

Across N France, S UK and Ireland, forecast profiles suggest a prevalence of heavy rain risk with very moist profiles, low LCLs and locally also the dominance of CAPE within the warm part of the cloud. A sharp short-wave trough will cross the UK along with a frontal system that should yield widespread storms that spread N and E during the afternoon and evening hours.

That's quite some distance, so, presumably, they're elevated. Hardly any cloud above, at the minute.

The tracks of these storms look to be heading straight towards me.

🙂

They fizzled out and/or missed in the end 😞

Looking at Nick's and Dan's forecast, seems like a drive west is the best bet, otherwise I'll be gardening and fully aware of storms 40 miles away, cursing.

Mid Norfolk eastward is dead for storms these days.

Unusual skew-t for a day with t/storms forecast.

Of interest is the LCL (lifting condensation level) which is the height where the air becomes saturated and the LFC (level of free convection)  which is the height where air becomes warmer than the surrounding area so that the air just goes up and up - for our interest goes up far enough to create big clouds that support storms.

Both are surprisingly low, which suggests very little surface heating will be required to kick stuff off - maybe as low as 20degC, but more like 21/22degC. These temperatures should be the level where any CIN that is forecast evaporates quickly. The great big fat DD (dewpoint depression, the dent in the blue line as it goes up) normally really gives lift a good boost, too.

Given that the skies above Rochester are currently clearing, this bodes well for later on. Don't forget to check out your chances with the marginally useful, t/storm chart,

Me too! Though the rest of the house slept through it apart from me and the oldest cat, who was sat up in the window watching the lighting and also enjoying the breeze.

Quite a storm last night from a little after 1am to 2.20am BST, rain torrential for a short period. Now cloudy and feeling much less humid than recently.
