W COUNTRY WEDS: Broad trend to spread snow risk further north through today into afternoon/eve, i.e. more into #Gloucestershire/#Cotswolds & eastwards to Chilterns. Tricky balance southwards, as snow could pep-up later/eve for eg M4, S Glos, perhaps #Bristol (esp higher ground).

Thanks for that! And to Ian..

We missed the snow on the coast of course, so I headed inland to see where the snow line was. As expected, it starts at the south downs, about 15 miles inland at Exton. Drove up to 150msl and got the full experience, around 3 inches of snow. Quick snowman with the kids, box ticked for the winter 👍

Still quite heavy snow here, just small sized snowflakes

I’m sure forecasts yesterday lunchtime (so not even 24 hours ago) had this precipitation hardly making inroads into the South of England then a largely dry day until late snow risk.

It’s actually in the region of 250 miles further North than that!

Looking at the radar those of us getting heavy showery snow have plenty more to come.

Last half hour has seen thaw reversed and an extra cm or so added hope the intensity keeps building. 😍

I'm surprised we're still in the warning area Andy, so technically still in the game. Though I don't like being on the edge of a warning area.  Just been up to the top for a walk. Good few inches up there with a few areas where the snow has drifted a couple of feet deep.

Hello! I was formerly registered here just as ‘noggin’, but a change of broadband provider etc and change of email address meant I couldn’t sign myself back in (am useless at that sort of thing) so I have re-registered with a new name. Plus some other stuff as well. Such a relief to be back, but sad to have lost so much history though☹️. Plus my badge☹️.

Anyway, we have had an inch or two here, although some has melted. Light snow falling now. Shall try to attach some pictures of the back garden…

Wonderful fall of snow. Stopped then restarted. Seems to be less falling now.   0.1c is the temperature.

Some heavier precipitation beginning to move in now, dewpoints are just above 0c but not massively so, so fingers crossed we can get a nice snow show!

Oh yes it was amazing surprise.

Didnt ever think id see much. Then this morning Met office app showed it turning to rain at 9am so I thought meh that will be gone by lunch but even my met office app keeps extending the transition. Its now forecast to turn to rain at 4pm 🙄

Are you currently in Bristol or in Bridgwater? I am just to the north of Bristol and it is just drizzly rain here now, melting all of the lovely snow.  If whatever you have could spread slightly north, then that would be lovely!

Bristol currently. It's mostly turned to sleet now sadly.

Had a really heavy burst of snow for half an hour but didn't stick on paths, turned lighter now and  looking more like sleet. Temp 0.6c DP 0.1c.

Looks like that's it for this spell, models show milder air pushing for a day or so...Friday the next chance?

Amazing how wrong a short term forecast can be.. met office showed max of +9 for this afternoon first thing today here in North Devon .. just been out and it’s bitter. Strong wind and only 1.1c.  Been raining since 9am but not much is melting!

My snow will also turn to sleet☹️ and wash away the snow. I always feel ridiculously sad when the snow melts away. There is hardly anything of the earlier snow left here now☹️, but I am glad that I took some pictures of it at about 7am. I shall tootle over to the mad thread and see if there will be any more in a few days’ time, as that was what was being said a few days ago.
