The Far South West however has slightly lower wind speeds.

Yes it moves the higher winds further north. This has been the direction of travel all day. Id suggest southern wales the worst hit area to start with now

GFS creeps north *again* surprise surprise.

At this rate it will be an ordinary windy day on the Dorset coast. *Yawn*

Same here, as I said it's always happens down here.

Trees are starting to come down all over the place across the rail network. The concerning thing is it is happening outside of the warning areas, so it does not bode well at all for anyone wanting to travel on Friday.

Even here there have been a few loud surprising gusts. Dover.

Is this going to be as bad as Burns Day 1990? Here's some of the high gusts from that day:

Manchester Airport: 71mph

Birmingham Airport: 67mph

Gatwick: 83mph

Heathrow: 88mph

Crosby: 69mph

Cardiff Airport: 97mph

Bedford Airport: 79mph

Chivenor: 88mph

St Mawgan: 96mph

St Abb's Head: 97mph

St Catherine's Point: 104mph

Stanstead Airport: 83mph

Southampton Weather Centre: 87mph

So some places likely to be worse (e.g. Birmingham, Chivenor), some places not so bad (Heathrow currently looking around 80mph on ECM for instance)

Late northwards shifts do my head in with these things! Surely it's not about to happen yet again when the models have all been in agreement thus far?

Never mind. Another yawnfest of a winter. Roll on summer. At least its odds on for sunny weather in this part of the country, at least for a few weeks. I'm off, good night and God bless. I will pop back in for the summer

The 18Z GFS has a central pressure 6 - 8 mb lower than what I have seen on the UKV and FAX charts. That's probably the reason for the slight shift.. however, the overall picture hasn't changed.

It’s absolutely howling outside and this is nothing compared to Eunice. Genuinely dreading it but morbidly fascinated all at once.

He's right. It will turn out to be a damp squib with a breeze whilst Scotland get battered by blizzards again!!

Never get anything on the south coast. No snow, strong winds or anything that resembles exciting. These storms always falter for this part of the country either going too far north or dropping south. Not sure why and its very frustrating.

That's not good for us here in South Wales, bringing even more widely potential 80-90mph gusts for us, I hope it modifies a bit come tomorrow.

If i had a say in it i would certainly stop the corrections north!

Dont want the stupidly strong winds especially not with a ridiculously huge silver birch tree in the garden that would cause huge damage if it falls

Fingers crossed it slips south!

Don't worry I'm sure I see a wheelie bin or two going down the road. It just be a tad breezy here and nothing more at this rate.

Have you seen the UKV? Just a breeze for Poole

Maybe the lack of much winter excitement has proved too much for some?

I'm here in South London listening to the wind gusting quite strongly from Dudley up in Scotland thinking blimey what's Friday going to be like regardless of where the centre of the low end up!
