Cranking up here now in Oxfordshire too. Photo sent from my brother back home in Keynsham, Bristol of a large tree which has fell onto a footbridge...

Just happened to peer out of a bedroom window as saw a brick wall blow down in the neighbours garden.. that must have needed some force to do that?!

Just had first big gust here in wgc. Pretty vicious...at least 50mph would have thought (dont have an anemometer).

Here's a few leaves down in Devon...

Yikes, that used to be my commute to work. Shows the warnings were correct

I remember being under the red warning for storm arwen, think the warning was from 9pm.

10pm - windy, 11pm - windy - I was thinking like a lot on here, oh this has been exaggerated, early hours of the morning the storm ripped through like a train, really really frightening .

Be careful what you wish for and I still think you are just at the start.

What is wrong with some (quite a lot of ) people?

It's clearly a very damaging storm with official gusts already up to 88 mph, at least one unofficial at 95 mph and the worst still coming. Just because in your back yard you're not experiencing it (yet) doesn't mean you should disengage your intelligence.

I'm North Cornwall, it's pretty hairy atm there has already been damage and power outages. Just because it hasn't affected some people yet doesn't mean it won't. Totally agree with your comments.

You would think that whoever creates these charts would consider their colour scheme, since when has purple and pink brought more awareness/danger than red - would tie in with warning colours as well, maybe they should just adopt yellow, amber, red colours.

But just a thought.

It's more I don't understand kph to be honest.

My barometer is dropping very quickly. 5 millibars in 3 hours from 990 to 985. It's just a little breezy out but looks severe later, even as far inland as my location. Take care folks.

Have to admit not much great footage around on social media. Not a fan of America but they would be all over this.

Seems quite fitful here with steady but not damaging winds and then every few minutes a giant gust has a go at the roof, making everything that moves rattle and bang, then back to relative normality.  If this continues for another two hours or so I think I'll be through the worst.

Just as I wrote the above a huge gust hit the house and made it shudder.  Guess there's more of that to come.....

Just 7mph off the English record. Could it go today?

Looks like I'm about to go into that big calm area moving in from the west under the southern system.

Looks nasty though over Ireland and that is the part I'm expecting to get hammered by later today.

Just had a heavy hailstone shower too as I typed this.

And in 'she' blows!

Gusts increasing now.

Peak wind time here, i guess, for next few hours.

Saving grace is that anyone working a 'standard' working day in an office or factory in these parts should've been able to have got to work this morn.

Ah no, just realised my base station doesn't connect to wifi without a mains power supply, so it hasn't been logging the station data for the last 90 mins??‍♂️

You can always tell how bad a storm is gonna be by windspeed on the needles, fair to say this will be bad
