The warnings should emphasise this - people in the eastern half of the warning area will look outside at 10:30 and see that it’s not too bad and then go out.   the sting jet risk (which I assume is the main reason for the red warning) transfers west to east during that five hours ….

If you read the information in the warning, I think it describes the timing quite well...

I must be reading that wrongly as it has the prediction as 23:00? It does say to the right 22 hrs. Bit confused what the actual time of this chart is?

These charts show the maximum gusts that have occurred up to a certain time, so in the case below, up to 24hrs until midnight (1.00 French time as it is a French chart).  Obviously those gusts will be much earlier in the day.

Not got a weather station..  but just getting gusts now enough to make we worried we'll lose trees..   (10s of hard gust where you can see all the trees bending for most of their height).  At least we should lose fewer trees than 87, as then they all still had their leaves on.

Apologies if this is one of many, but the chart shows peak wind speed from 0h - 23:00h. So the highest predicted for the whole day.

I don’t think there is going to be a sting jet on this system . Met guy on radio 5 just said so

was he a met guy or a BBC weather presenter?

Just picked up an email from one of our transport companies, apparently a lorry has already been turned over on the M5

Seems the BBC have sent their reporters to Cumbria, first time I've seen them actually take the weather and report on a storm for more than 5 minutes. Seems to be one of the main headlines right now, a small win for the weather community, a big shame that it took a massive red warned storm that could kill lives for it to happen. Looking further up, turns out I missed them saying that winds were smaller than forecast, once again, not understanding the forecast.

Winds smaller than forecast in Cumbria, are they even in the storm at all. I would have thought perhaps snow at one point mind, but that would be further north now I think.

Same here; was forecast 60mph gusts from the Met and I would say it peaked at around 45mph

Peaked? It's still building for an hour or so yet!

All weather stations in Cornwall have recorded gusts of 60-70mph so far. It's gone exactly to forecast.

It's most likely because I live in the Southern part, even on though I'm about 200 meters the clay pit hilly areas are the saving grace.

Anyways I said my bit, and will no longer comment on this thread.

9am icon estimate:

note that the stronger winds are only just starting to push into the broader SW in the next 30 minutes.

Also interestingly some parts of the SW stay relatively lower compared with the red alert areas (indeed pockets within the red alert stay lower as well).

Should see a pretty rapid shift in the higher wind zone eastwards in the next 2hrs.

Electricity repair estimate from ESB 12:45, but I'll take that with a pinch of salt given the work they'll have today.

When the wind arrives, it doesn't provide much warning!
