I notice on the Met Office forecast for Doncaster that have have dropped the highest gusts from 63-65 to 55-56 and moved them 2 hours later. This is probably a decent guide for how winds in other areas may decrease over the initial predictions, 5-10 mph lower than the warnings perhaps?

The centre is in the process of becoming one again and likely to be just off the NE coast by 1200. The strongest winds, away from the south coast will be from about NW, on the south coast, initially wsw-w becoming nw.

Can someone link to the Needles wind speeds? They are not showing up on any of the conventional sites.

Anyone?

Kind of finding it hard to believe given other readings around the country. So would love to see a link ... please.

Just up the road near Colchester, ramped up in the last half an hour.  Genuinely quite worrying, my house is ancient - That goes either of 2 ways, it’s been here for 350 years and survived worse, or it’s old and frail and half of it will end up scattered across the village..

I'm in the same boat here in Braintree.  I'm hoping the former applies, as my entire upstairs is the loft space of this 200+ year old converted barn.

Not sure I agree with this but we will see. Perhaps that's just up north.

So far I'd say that yes it is slower moving but also more extensive and worse.

Estofex did say that the low could split into 2

Met Office just confirmed it, but the Needles is an incredibly exposed site and often records 30mph+ higher than other sites.

power is back on. Huge gusts are happening outside. If David Braine was correct yesterday, winds should start coming down soon, but still very gusty this afternoon

It's getting alot worse now. 75mph gust just recently

The winds are also starting to turn more westerly/north westerly which for some may exacerbate things further.

p.s. why the Asterisk next to the reading though?

To denote the fact it's a very exposed site and not representative of what most areas will be receiving.

Violent gusts here in Twickenham . Just heard a large tree crack and fall down in the wood at the back of our house.

Wonder whether this has anything to do with the storm coming on shore and no Atlantic to fuel it, similar to tropical storms.
