35C at London City airport 10 am

Just bear in mind that all METARs such as London City, Cambridge, Stansted etc are rounded. Still impressive though.

Meanwhile, Heathrow is at 34.4C at 10:10am.

Currently 27.5C at 10:20 in my garden in Wakefield

Up from 25.3C at 09:20, and 24.5C at 08:20

Skies are not blue, but have high level milky cloud.

Some stations on wunderground showing 97f to 98f On Cambridgeshire already.

It is 34c here in North Derbyshire providing the skies stay clear no reason why we can't hit 40c today.

Think anyone in central and east England at 34C+ now is in with a shout of 40C.

Just hit 30.1C here. That's the third consecutive day above 30C. We'd managed it just 8 times in 42 years before this week and never on consecutive days.

So an alternative to 'will the record be broken?'

is ... when and where will it be first broken?

And when and where will first hit 40C?

!!!

Cambridge, Peterborough, Lincoln, Nottingham by 1pm will reach 40C.

Based on my local knowledge, current rate of temp increase, im going for Peterborough to be todays hotspot.

Well into the 34c range and still only 10am figures coming out.

This is the type of heat never seem in the UK at this time, only maybe July 1st 2015 can compete?

I remember that day. Worked from home but decided to go for a quick run at 10 (before it got too hot). Opened my front door and it felt like a blast furnace. Unbelievable at that time of day.

Didn't go for a run in the end oddly enough.

Would have easily broken the record but for the pesky cloud that rolled in around 12 for a couple of hours. Even after it had cleared though, there was still enough time for a late afternoon surge to a modest (by todays standards) 36C.

the date record today is 36.5 at Wisley and Epsom Dowms (2006)

That will be gone by midday, possibly comfortably.

Madness that a top 10 day ever is about to get destroyed by midday.

So, Emley Moor last night didn't drop below 23.9C, therefore it's a record minimum night. However, the Met Office are discounting it because it reached a lower temperature after 9am the previous day. Absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah they've always recorded 0900-0900 and would need to stick to that for continuity. It's a massive shame but it is what it is.

Also, if they made an exception so they could insert the 25.9 as a new record minimum, they would be accused of fiddling figures to suit a climate change agenda.

I've noticed how this heatwave is most remarkable for more central-northern areas of England compared to averages and historical records.

Here we had just one day above 30C yesterday, which compares to 9 out of 11 (and 11 in a row above 29C) in 1976. Parts of the SW, towards north/West Devon and into Cornwall broke their record yesterday, but also down to Plymouth. The Exeter area must be one of the few parts of the country left where the record is still from nearly 50 years ago (33.5C in 1976).

And also that before 2015, this used to be the July record (and nearly was until 2019). Now we're going about 4C higher, after going 2.2C higher in 2019..

Quite a shortage of stations up that way though.

Particularly when one of the more likely candidates, 03158 Charterhall, has been taken off line recently.

Already at 36c here in Cambridge at 10:30am. So long as cloud doesn't interfere I think we're nailed on for 40c today. 4c to climb in 5-6 hours is more than do-able in this set up.
