I must go to Aviemore sometime. I have never ever been to Scotland!

I went skiing up there on quite a few occasions, Beka -- what with the snow, the ptarmigans and the snow buntings. What can I say?👍

The Cairngorms in winter is a magical place , also worth a visit to Inverness , probably my favourite Scottish city

The scenery as you head down the A95 from Grantown on Spey to Aviemore in winter never gets old. Catching sight of the Cairngorms cloaked in snow 😎

I was in Aviemore June 2001 and the Cairngorms turned white overnight, the German Shepherd was delighted with himself.

Aviemore would be a great place to base if you enjoy the great outdoors 👍

I've had a two holidays in the Highlands during June 2019 and 2021 and thoroughly enjoyed them.  I would love to be based in Aviemore!

Like air frost, snowfall on the fells has not been a feature of Autumn so far.. lets see what November brings.

Helvellyn would need to be 6000 feet high to have received snow this month!

Suspect the freezing line will drop markedly as we move into November. A westerly airstream though won't be enough to pull it down low enough to produce anything wintry just yet.. need an injection of polar air. Hoping by mid Nov we may see something more wintry.. mind many a Jan goes by with the fells stripped bare of snow for lengthy periods.

Going to be getting up some munros on Friday, undecided where but finding snow is a must. Weather is looking pretty horrific but my skin is waterproof…

Delighted to see it’s to get colder, by Sunday Cairngorm is seeing highs of -4/-5c. Much better…

I'd expect snow down to 600m in the Highlands by the end of the week.

North Cairngorms may be best spot. Looks a dry window Saturday.

Probably lower, 400m.

Whereabouts? I’ve been looking at Nevis, Ben macdui - anywhere which will give me some lovely snow. I need 1200m i’d say having studied Ben More (Strilingshire one).

All look soaking wet at low levels but c’est la vie. I’m determined, whiteout conditions or not. It’s happening

Any of the Cairngorm fells would do, possibly Lochnagar as well. I wouldn't do Ben Nevis a bit too coastal.

Might be some temporary snow fall and cover on the Lakeland Fells, more likely on Monday.

Good point, I shall devise a gameplan tomorrow with the old ball and chain and  get something sorted.
Would be great if the lakes had a good winter!

Last 9 winters have been by and large terrible for snow on the fells. Last decent one was 2012-13. Winter 14-15 brought episodic snow at times, 17-18 was poor despite quite cold conditions, winter 20-21 preety decent but amount not up to much.

All others shocking poor. Ah winter 09-10 I reminisce..

I was going to say about 20-21 but yeah that’s pretty depressing.
Snow just has that magic about it and there’s nothing I like more than a blue bird day, at least the outlook is colder now and fairly active. Southerly winds can stay away

2013 snowier than 2018? I am surprised, 2013 was a bust in East Cumbria with the frequent easterlies delivering little lying snow.

2018 delivered several snowfalls in January and February even before the ‘Beast’ arrived which then brought the best blizzard conditions I have ever seen.

Just shows how localised a snowy winter can be.

Can see this being another bleak winter for the Scottish Ski resorts, I do hope otherwise

Good chance first proper snow of the season for most northern high ground early next week. Snowline 600m here, probably 400m in Scotland. Looks temporary but will be good to see.

The top isn’t ‘that’ high (1097m) compared to the absolute summits ie > 1300m so there will be a wee bit more at the top of Ben Nevis et al.

Yup, Sunday - Tues does look chilly. Fingers crossed for more of the same (or better)
