Manchester METAR is a mix of 'freezing fog' and snow showers overnight, alas my night of attempted Astrophotography has been cut short by the fog which has since moved in past 9:30pm. Although I just about managed to get one batch of pictures pointed & stacked towards Andromeda before the night is over, it won't win any prizes but it's not too bad for a first-try on M31+M110.

Amazed. Was clear skies when I left work.just got home off the bus and walked for ten minutes in heavy snow everywhere now has a covering. This is brilliant and a lovely surprise

The met office app has me down for two hours of heavy snow at 80% for tomorrow evening.

This must be the only place on earth where you are watching/hoping a little snow shower will hit your area and could only be your only real flakes of the winter!! Yet it does feel rewarding. 
 

At least with this cold snap, it may well not be as prolonged as December but we seem to have the convection/moisture moving in off the Irish Sea with the temps already well cold enough which is guaranteeing that anything falling from the sky will be snow no matter what level above sea you are and how far away from coast, not making a single difference.
 

The issue with Decembers cold spell is that it came in behind a wet and mild weather system with back edge snow that then freezed for two weeks with dry cold arctic air. This time, we have got the cold in first. 
 

Also very hopeful for the region tomorrow eve. I am happy with this eve’s covering just before I go to bed. I reckon most of the region could be making up to a whiteout (not by any means thick) by the morning with the snow showers and frost combining.

Very ample soundings tomorrow night to produce a potentially disruptive shower inflow into parts of the NW - specifically along the Mersey river corridor into Cheshire / Manchester. Increased maritime layering will support >0C dew points for a more significant portion of the coast tomorrow night though. Say >0 dew points down to the M6 corridor so many seeing wintriness tonight might struggle tomorrow. Quick phasing out of the maritime layer around 10 miles inland though. I'd say 2-5cm widely inland is likely tomorrow night with local spots upto 12cm perhaps.

Yeah looks ok up to about midnight here. After that looks iffy for snow.
