CAPE yeah! The front arriving from the west, results in strong southerly winds ahead of the front, advecting a warm moist airmass over us. However, if the front arrives too soon, then less daytime heating, lower CAPE. If the front arrives through the afternoon, we get maximised daytime heating and much higher CAPE. The strong southerly winds ahead of the front will provide strong wind shear, which combined with large CAPE can lead to strong-severe thunderstorms. Which is why this setup is very knife-edge!

Ok

I think yesterday's feature would of produced more organised storms had it arrived about 2pm, and further west with maximum heating, rather than early morning. Alot of luck needed with ingredients coming together.

If I was to draw 24 June 1994 again, then Sundays chart pretty much does it for me. Looks like a similar setup.

Best storm of my life you tease!!

June 1994 was when I took my first ever lightning pic.
This was looking East from Wormley, Herts:  (When I can find the neg I'll be able to restore this)

That's fantastic!  I was a 15 year old back in Essex experiencing it - it was something else, I keep thinking I want to see something like it again but it was terrifying even though I love a storm!

I believe I actually remember it, even though I was 3. I remember waking up terrified of this purple, blue and pink lightning, plus the thunder that went with it. It was the first time of quite a few times in the 90’s! I seem to remember my parents and grandparents going on about it the morning after! It looked tremendous for a fair portion of the country, but particularly the SE as that looked to have copped a second MCS continental import going by the historical charts.

Small shower popped off just to the south of Southam, looks to be heading through to Daventry shortly.

It doesn't look like much on the radar but there's frequent thunder coming from the cell near Craven Arms

Been getting progressively darker to my s/w this last hour, having a look at the lightning radar there seems to be some action near by, hopefully might get stormage happening 😁

At the moment it’s looking like a dry and hot sort of weekend for the south. Definitely some potential (again) for areas further north however. My weather app however has been flirting on and off with the potential for storms across the south on Sunday, so not a complete right off just yet.

It’s a very volatile one. It’s set to be a fast paced setup, with critical timings involved. If we see a decent build up of heat and humidity underneath a rapidly strengthening jet and cooling temperatures aloft, then we could be looking at the potential for some severe storms. This looks a pretty rare one. I would like to see the jet perhaps dipping a bit further South and less flat, to enable a better push of the hot and humid air up from the BoB and France.

Chased near Peterborough this afternoon (camera photos to come) but any thoughts on this lowering?

Catching up with older posts, what an amazing pair of images 🥳🤩👌 what you've snapped is an inflow tail and purely going off these pics I'm massively confident that was a supercell, appears it was in the process of trying to form a wall cloud

A tail cloud is a type of cloud formation that appears at the rear of a thunderstorm or a supercell storm. It is often associated with strong winds and heavy rain. In this article, we will...
