Today is not going to plan so far. Still foggy here at 10.30am and only 16.8C. We're only a couple of hours from solar noon so ill be amazed if we get to the predicted 27C now.

Can’t believe people are actually want cloudy, overcast, foggy conditions! Likely to be the last useable spell of weather of outdoors activities this year without wearing millions of layers.

Grim! 😒

It's positively brilliant.. the longer nights are allowing the brickwork to cool overnight and there is far less latent heat building up inside.. like it would when the sun is abovevthe horizon over 3 hours longer in june and July..

Only just brightening up in Huntingdon (which is well inland with the exception of the Wash). Probably still overcast back home.
The surface pattern is different to what most models were forecasting even 24 hours ago with a surface flow off the North Sea from the north east, despite the 500mb flow suggesting winds should be from the south.

Great start to September sunshine so far.

Cheshire are halfway, plus 10 hours off from their entire total for July, just 5 days in!! Similar story for Cumbria!

No clear leader so far as the sun has been in abundance throughout!

27 here already, and wind from the north. Surely that's backwards although it shows why the coast isn't lowering temps.

Winds are westerly here, which is quite strange considering how stubborn the fog is!

Its just starting to turn brighter now and the temp is responding. Only 17.6C at the moment, though if the wind stays offshore then we'll no doubt still reach the higher temperatures of inland.

What is more rare

7 days of >30c in September
Getting a 40c in July
A 30c day in April or October

Good question, but as far as I can determine there has never been 30c recorded in the UK in April or October.  So  that would have to be the rarest event.  I am unable to discover whether any September has ever recorded 7 consecutive 30c+ days in the UK.    Unless my information is incorrect - do you have an answer to your own question?

6 consecutive days in the overlapping spell of August/September 1906 is the most I'm aware of.

Not a cloud in the sky all morning, but the sunshine is very hazy today. Is the Saharan dust cloud to blame? 25c at the moment.

Slower start because of cloud this morning but the temperature skyrocketed as soon as the clouds cleared - from 19C at 10am to 22C now.

In theory it’ll get pushed away as a mean feature by the developing vortex. The pack of cards will be reshuffled at some point over the next 14 days.

In the mean time the warm flow looks to become more and more unstable. We’re going to go from crystal skies to cloudier muck over the next few days as the the humidity increases. I’m just hoping we see a storm out of it!

Signs of instability already today. much hazier skies and the airstream shifts to a southerly/ south westerly picking up more moisture from the sea and increasing humidity. Had these synoptics occured 6 weeks ago it would be major heatwave territory and very uncomfortable. Alas we are being spared such discomfort thanks to the weaker sun and less day length, more natural cooling. We have 74% humidity right now.

Despite my above post about sea breezes I just walked to my car in the works car park and I’ve never experienced such warmth in September before. Wouldn’t be surprised to see few points reach 22/23C in places today.

Seems to be fine, although they only recorded 4 hours on the 2nd along with nearby places like Hampshire & Isle of Wight so prob why they're lower. Wouldn't focus on the position at the moment since there is only 9 hours separating 1st and 31st currently! Could all change in the space of 1 day.
