Not taken today in Shropshire! Continually grey and lots of rain and drizzle. Sun tried to appear around 4pm but then went back in again. Feels incredibly sticky as well, temperature hardly dropped last night.

My view ... not even seen a glimpse of sun all day

looking vile tomorrow, this probably the worst weather setup along with a Cheshire gap flow, rain, rain, rain, had enough now

not much mention anywhere of tomorrow's rain

Hoping the second half of October is much cooler. Would prefer the temperatures to be around 14c to 17c with single digits night temperatures for those misty/foggy mornings.

It's had a mention or two in the storms thread.

As long as it's sunny I'd have no probs with that! I do enjoy heat but April 2021, for example, was one of my favourite months despite the lack of heat because it was so crisp & sunny making me imagine of what an alpine Spring would be like.

Seems like the Met Office are still going for a milder than average winter period, Gav mentioned the IOD thorn in the side for cold weather too. But still so many strong signals for cold weather, really confusing.

April 2021 and September 2015 were the rare cases of it being cold but sunny, whilst not being in winter. Both months I enjoyed throughout.. 😄

This setup would have been good in January.

Yes for sure, I actually just started a thread about cool crisp months in the historic thread to find out more examples of these type of months!

For anyone who's really struggling with the prospect of having to deal with autumn and winter, there's a neat trick I like to use that works pretty well. Don't think of spring as being five months away, think of it as being 20 something weeks away. It sounds silly and obvious, but mentally it's a pretty comforting way of thinking about it. It's much less cumbersome than thinking of it in terms of months or days, just remember how fast a week passes.

Ah right, so wish one's time away.

When u get to 61 you really dont want the "20 something weeks" that you mention to pass quickly🤣👍

Warm record after warm record year in year out, can't wait four the first colder than average month to appear, so long overdue, one day...

I never said wish it away, I just said think of it in terms of weeks rather than months.

First third of October 2023 looking better than virtually all of July (or August).

Never seen such an exceptional forecast so late in the year! I guess I was too young to properly appreciate 2011 but here we are even later in the year. Autumn 2023 has been something else so far.

Wall to wall sunshine and 25C (likely an underestimate) smack bang in the middle of autumn??? Sounds good to me

Yep - it’s as good as it gets at this time of year. First two nights of October have barely dipped below 17C here. Long May it continue.
