I'm getting a bit concerned now that there will be these two big storms and little else. And I'm sat between the two of them.

I'm currently watching the line that extends from the Peterborough/Stamford area storm to the NW, that seems to be building a bit, although, with the cloud cover where I am, I can't really see if the tops are building.

I may have to have a trip up to see it off! Going very dark towards Wisbech way now.

Change of plan, quick trip up the A17 to intercept just north of Sutton Bridge

Those cells have fired up quickly over the Pennines to the West of Bradford. Will be interesting to see whether or not they keep any strength.

As disappointed as I am, I wouldn’t write it off just yet. There seems to be a few cells starting to get going west of Bradford and into the Dales.

Yet seemingly all the clag didn't  have an impact on the storms over the far N of England or Peterborough.

The skies have been pretty clear over this area all day (well until the thunderstorm arrived) and temperatures just to the east of here have reached 32c. The problem was model wise that most thought that there wouldn’t be a trigger to initiate convection. Looking at the models there is a shallow low that was crossing central/southern England this afternoon. That appears to have been the ingredient to create forcing and break the cap down here.

There's annoying clag around these parts of the NW but still some clear skies behind it on the Sat24 vis, there's always the possibility (or hope) that once temperatures get lower after sunset then nocturnal cooling could be enough of a trigger to spark off mid-layered storms across the Midlands. If nothing has still happened past midnight then i'll be calling it a day and looking forward to a cooler night's sleep past Monday.

Looks to be firing east of the A1 towards York as well.

In other stuff, look at the tops of those...

Watch a live video webcam of the main beach and promenade in Hunstanton, on the North-West Norfolk coast, in the UK.

it's not reaching Hunstanton but looks to get very close.

Yep it’s getting intense now temps dropped from 29oC to 23oC in a matter of minutes.

No lie it’s as black as your hat here, the satellite shows that top almost sitting over the entire county
