A wonderful line of Cumulus Congestus in the English Channel as seen now from Eastbourne with pink tops at sunset - a whole line of them developing which looks good for later. I think its all starting to develop.

From  Saint Malo north coast of France,...stunning.

Flying eagle?

also how do you guys go about getting live webcams? Every time I search for one the sites are always horrendous, full of pop ups and not live.

Based on the outlook from The Weather Channel, it looks like I'm still in the game. They really like to exaggerate thunderstorms but if things play out right it could spark something.

Might have to stay up later than usual and take the bullet! My fate of sleep or no sleep will be decided in the next few hours...

Would love to be on the ground over N France right now as two strong cells literally are smashing into each other. One travelling ENE smashing into another travelling almost NNW!

Those storms near Cherbourg are defo supercells imo, have the classic look to them.

Velocity data also shows some weak rotation, far from the radar though.

Looks like they are producing some fairly big hail aswell, shame they wont survive the channel.

It could easily come to nothing but in all honesty I think the risk is worth it. This is quite likely my last real storm chase of 2023.

My gut is saying somewhere along or east of a line from Brighton to Cambridge. Question is how east of this line. Last year on October 23rd I head to Essex as this area looked primed, but the storms erupted northwards to my west through Luton, Milton Keynes etc. I don't want a repeat of that.

I was thinking Epsom downs (where the racecourse is) could be a good spot … but light pollution might be an issue.

fantastic views north over London city from there

You mention October 23rd last year. That was by far the best storm i have witnessed for many years...it had everything...frequent lightning, continuous rolling thunder, wind, torrential rain and hail...

This was the radar of the approach that evening..

...the storm front didnt weaken like most, it kept intensifying for quite a while as it moved north..goes to show that quality storms can occur in October if the conditions are right..as for tonight...well ...

Id head to dover, get a nice view of all the storms in the channel as they just miss Kent later.

Thanks lol, but that's one thing I like, can keep watching storms long after they've gone.
