Common for Scottish glens to have their first frost as early as August.

Its much easier to achieve frost now in Scottish glens as out of 5 coldest locations this morning i think 4 are recently added stations and some of those were carefully chosen by me to be some of the coldest dolines in the whole of UK 🙂

Dont want to take the full credit for it of course but guys running the network needed  the last 5% of fine tuning and scientific and graffic tools(Landsat maps).

I am only passing on the expertise as I was in the same position few years back when building my own Network and needed  to undertand how the cold air pooling works as its not as simple. So I am happy that in nation of 67 milion  people and thousand stations we were able to achieve further 1 to 1.5°C colder minimas last night then if those stations didnt exist. And imagine I was not once in my life in Scotland 😃

Aboyne, Altnaharra and Aviemore all below 3 degrees already. These spots could go below 0 degrees early hours.

Shap currently 6 degrees, ground frost probable.

Nothing unusual and a reminder clear skies and not especially cold uppers can produce frost in prone spots at this time of year. A contrast to the excessive heat this month.

Foregin near Carrbridge this morning was -3.9°C. Station was installed at the fence close by where the image was taken in early summer.

-2.7C from Altnaharra the second coldest spot in the UK last night and has been added to the Torro date records database as the second coldest 13th September temperature reading.

Edit: Infact Kinbrace set the new date record for last night, at -3.5C!

However looking at those unofficial stations via @Highlandweather, it seems quite a few were even colder!

Should be taking note of the low mins in Highland Scotland from a not very cold set up and on the back of the recent heat. An innocuous ridge producing such lows at this early stage in the season is noteworthy..

Shap nearly achieved an air frost, 0.4 degrees. Decent effort for 13 September.

I think we went down to about 5 degrees. Considering most evenings this month saw mins no lower than 15 degrees, it was a chilly shock this morning. The first autumnal morning of the season.

I always class the first autumnal morning as one that's hits single figures here, won't be for a while yet. First air frost resembles winter to me.

The premier site did well, unfortunatelly the second one around Braemar must have been plagued by mist. So for now it is Foregin with -4.7°C unoficial september low.

A chilly night in the offing. Certainly Highland valleys at risk of an air frost. Elsewhere sheltered frost hollows might just see a light grass frost.

Forecast min is 5 degrees here.

Did anywhere manage a frost last night?

For my location, it’ll be a while. Even grass frosts don’t tend to happen until November now.

Not sure. I don't think temps fell as low as expected.

Chilly night in the offing..Patchy ground frost sheltered parts of the north of England, but could get close to freezing or below highland valleys.

RAF Topcliffe recorded its first 0C of the season last night. It's a frost hollow location so its often one of the coldest parts of Yorkshire.

Widespread ground frost this morning much of north half of UK including Cumbria, N and W Yorkshire.

I see Shap went down to -0.5 degrees.

Suspect many will see there first air frost by the start of the new week. Typically we would have seen our first ground frost by now. Air frost by 3rd week of Oct.
