Evening all hope everyone is well and ready for what's to come. There is the potential for some very strong convection with this storm and as recent radar shows there is a very pronounced line that's developed and moving through the central channel. With very strong shear present this has the potential to produce very strong convective wind gusts potentially at quite alarming speeds. There is also the potential for a brief tornado or too with this setup! Currently here in Hassocks sustained winds are now at least 25-30 mph and gusts are now likely to be pushing north of 50mph. There is likely to be some very dangerous conditions as this line moves across and if anyone is out in this like I am then you need to be very aware and if you have any doubt then seek shelter! Good luck to anyone out experiencing this but know your limits, stay away from the immediate coast as the waves are already massive, stay away from large and exposed trees as there is a good chance of trees failing and most importantly stay safe.

It's relit and the wind gusts are picking up, gotta charge my camera soon, power will probably go off at one point.

Pretty sure I see a giant shelf cloud.

Sorry for my late reply, just had dinner.

I use an app called "WeatherandRadar", and they also have a website www.weatherandradar.co.uk

They can and do get stuff wrong every now and again, but from my research they seem to get the highest accuracy.

Also as a side note i use Accuweather sometimes, but only for their minute-by-minute forecasts. I never trust any other forecast from them though 😂

Thank you will look at those

On the evening of September 2nd, 2023 an incredible spectacle of nature occurred in the four corners region of the United States. Rare upward lightning initiated from the iconic natural landmark Sh…

If anyone is interested in the more in-depth science of lightning, an interesting case study from September in Shiprock, with a lightning event from a moonsonal thunderstorm and some great photos from Jim Tang.

Any thundery-ness expected in this evening's coastal downpours between Dorset and Kent?

If you are to believe the M.O warning, then yes.

They seem to bandy the word 'thunderstorm' around in these warnings all the time now.

Time was that mentioning thunderstorm even during a Spanish plume set up was hard to use the word in warnings

We currently have a line of very heavy showers passing between the islands of Guernsey and Jersey and thunder has been heard in the distance here in Jersey. Strong and gusty winds too.

A potent cell way out in the channel, showing what could be possible nearer to our shores this evening:

Had a bit of Thunder not long ago here to our West or Northwest but it didn’t last long. I saw the flashes as well so it was a bit of a surprise as I wasn’t expecting anything.

We have been having on and off heavy outbreaks of rain for most of the night.

The hail from that storm was mad. Was caught outside waiting for lesson and we got hit hard. Our dt teacher arrived and said to us ‘ you’ve all seen rain before’ I was so tempted to tell him that it was hail as the floor was white and we had all been attacked by hail.
