@The Tall Weatherman oh you disagree? why not say anything then?

It’s still in the same place, producing lighting an hour later. You dont think it’s a supercell?

The only reason i disagreed is because clearly this a snow streamer. These happen when cold air travels over a warm body of water (the Irish Sea) and convection occurs for long periods of time locally meaning lots of snow. Lightning can also be generated as this is convection over water but this is not supercellular because firstly the conditions are simply to brutal and this shows no traits of a rotating mesocyclone.

I’m sorry if I harmed you in anyway from pressing the button.

Lightning has been captured from the Irish Sea streamer!

Fantastically loud crack of thunder this evening in Cookham, Berks according to lightning map. So loud it was heard for miles and caused several alarmed people to put posts up asking if another Buncefield explosionhad happened. Lord knows why is was so loud over such a wide area, colder temps I guess.

Sounds  great wish I was there to hear it.

No interest in the potential for strong winds later on Saturday? Some of the models are showing gusts >90km/h. That’s enough for damage to be a possibility.

Met has some yellow warnings out for wind, so they reckon it, for some reason no one is posting about it though

Seems to be a 40% chance of thunderstorms and a tornado over my parts today. I’ll update if anything interesting happens

Plenty of posts in the NW Regional thread where the effects of the wind yesterday appear to have been particularly severe.

An interesting evening coming up if the convective storm forecast is to be believed.🙂

Sorry to be off topic, but did anyone read this appallingly patronising video news item from the BBC?

Tornadoes battering Tennessee leave thousands of people without power.

Considering some poor souls died from the Tennessee outbreak, I'd like to flag Mr David Braine for dismissal from his post, after being quoted as saying:

"The weather phenomenon has also been described as a "baby tornado beginning to form but never quite getting there", according to BBC meteorologist David Braine."

Inaccurate, insensitive and patronising. Apologies, but this really riled me up.

A few lightning strikes off Portland currently, could I get a birthday TS?

Happy birthday 🎂

Looks like there could be a few rumbles in showers today - here's hoping!

THUNDERSTORM WATCH - TUES 12 DEC 2023

121223.thumb.JPG.0a2d73ef507ca84a976f9f3f68a39c5a.JPG

Issued 2023-12-12 08:46:32
Valid: 12/12/2023 0600 - 13/12/2023 0600

Forecast Details

Upper and collocated surface low will move east across England and Wales on Tuesday, upper cold pool will steepen lapse rates across southern Britain, particularly over relatively warmer SSTs which are forecast to generate 200-500 j/kg CAPE, this instability moving inland from the coasts in moist southwesterly flow for a time across Wales, central and southern England ahead of surface low centred over Wales by 15z. Increasing forced ascent of this unstable airmass ahead of the low moving east will support heavy showers and a few brief thunderstorms – which may produce hail, gusty winds and intense rainfall leading to localised flooding. A few funnel clouds or even a brief waterspout/weak tornado can’t be ruled out with stronger updrafts near coasts where relative warmer SSTs will create more buoyancy of air.
