Apparently a Volcano has ripped through Manchester according to the BBC. It was a very substantial volcano apparently 😂

Some pretty impressive lighting and cloud structure for December up here in Leeds! Apologies for the terrible quality, they're freeze frames!

Incredible lightning rates over the past 24 hours for December. Looks like the supercell that was responsible for the Manchester tornado was very long tracked, forming just off the southern coast of Ireland and tracking for around 300 miles/481km.

If it was during day time hours would've been interesting to see the scale of how the tornado was, still mad to think this is only December

Had a decent thundery shower come through here on Wednesday evening at 9:00 to 10:00pm. There were very bright flashes of sheet lightning that were about 1-2 miles or so away with cracking thunder. I was seeing distant flashes for several hours around the area before this came in as i was up the hill measuring the winds and as i could see the lightning getting closer i didn't take my chances and jogged back home into the house before it came over head. I dont think i have seen a storm that decent for this time of year at around Christmas time. It wasn't of the intensity of a classic Summer thunderstorm but i would say that it reminded me of the type of thundery showers you normally get in the Spring.

Me and my parents also think we heard some distant rumbles of thunder yesterday morning but it was hard to confirm because of the gusts of wind we were having at the time.

Last few days has been really cool to see these supercell like structures in the showers. You can clearly see the wind shear rotating the showers. Something you would see on a nws radar in the us

Just a bit of shear around tomorrow, always very cool seeing hodographs like this in the uk. As said earlier tornado probabilities depend on cape levels (especially 3cape) and if the squall line breaks into smaller segments.

UKV still going with the cold front pushing in and squall line forming around mid afternoon and moving across the country.

Regardless of any tornado threat i would expect heavy rainfall and gusty winds as this passes by.

Tonight is looking seriously interesting especially in the way of strong Winds and potential tornadoes. Torro has brought up on the fact of Tornadoes for much of the Midlands/ East Anglia and a corridor around the Central South. Lightning Wizard shows strong convective gusts in excess of 70mph across the midlands for a short amount of time and strong Low level shear and SRH is also present as the front moves through bringing the risk of tornadoes for a time.

Torro said this- "Very strong low-level flow /850 hPa flow of 55-65 knots/ is expected to develop ahead of the front across parts of Cent S England, SE England, the Midlands, and E Anglia, creating large low-level shear and curved hodographs.

Instability will be rather meagre along the frontal zone, but may be enhanced by the two upper troughs. Low-level flow into the front will likely encourage a narrow line of intense rain, and the shear along the front may allow mesocyclones to develop. These will assist in bringing strong wind gusts in places, perhaps to 60-70mph. There will also be the risk of isolated tornadoes.”

Looks like the squall is only really developing as it moves further inland.

Was waiting for it to pass around midday here but nothing happened. The winds just died down and the rain just stayed the same for the rest of the day.

Taken this when I was in worthing. Seems that the waves are starting to build up. Don't know when would the squall line hit?
