Evidently Storm Debi is the earliest named "D" Storm, since they started to be named in 2014.

I'm sure all relevant Met Agencies are keeping a close eye on this feature, as it approaches the U.K., from the South West Weds/Thurs.

Although this incoming Low isn't expected to be deep enough to warrant naming. ELIN is next on the list, should it do so:

Just had a baby squall line cross through here (Grantham, Lincs), I estimate, using my patented 'Eye-o-Meter' we had winds peaking 50-60 Mph for a very short time, very potent. In some of the gusts, it was like the remaining leaves exploded off the trees, which made it even more visually impactful.

I’ve safely arrived at work. There’s a lot of branches, trees and debris on the roads in my locality but was fine once I reached the motorway.

Not much damage around my house thankfully. My sea buckthorn tree got uprooted but apple trees fared fine. I was having nightmares last night that the glass would be blown off my greenhouse and decapitate the cows in the field behind the garden.

Here’s a few pics of the “carnage” IMG_8710.thumb.jpeg.a0332201d5234354e4b989e499cf11df.jpegIMG_8714.thumb.jpeg.122605233e3b9776a9fcbd51c4a7739d.jpegIMG_8709.thumb.jpeg.6ac041172999bf8d08910cf5085e6dcc.jpeg

The wind has picked up a bit here, otherwise scattered cloud and sunny spells

Sizable tree down in the village, about 2ft trunk.

Roads covered in general tree debris.

Some phone lines down locally.

Amazingly the remaining half of a tree at the top of my drive is still standing after the other but fell down in dead calm conditions the other week. (I still don't quite understand what happened there!)

Edited to cover up the fact I can't type

We're just in the beginnings of Storm Debi this early morning and already half the neighbourhood is covered in warmth & wheelie bins decidedly going on a wander down the road, the river Wye in Buxton currently has two flood alerts for Ashford + Bakewell due to the overnight rainfall and the rest of the day doesn't look too pleasant to be out on the roads.

I meant to say waste not warmth 🤪 at least the bin-folks have been now so there's no rogue wheelie bins going on wanders, it's somewhat quietened down outside since 7am but the gales will soon be cranking up as the 'wrap-around' the low edges further east.

Wind speed has really taken off in the last hour here. Has been a relatively calm Autumn in these parts so still loads of (yellow) leaves on the trees. Think this wind will strip them bare.

Decent presentation on satellite this morning. Looks like winds will ramp up in the coming hours for north west England. Very wet for the Lake district and a lot of Scotland now.

Think we were in the “eye” it was clear and sunny for a while after a wet morning. The sky has got much darker in the last 5 minutes.

After a west start here in Wakefield, we have a dry and sunny spell, albeit a bit breezy. I've managed to get my washing out on the line! But will have to bring it in before 12:00/12:30 I think as it looks wet this afternoon.

Probably more like 30-40mph going by your description although I always feel that it’s very difficult to tell wind speeds by eye alone unless you have proper measuring equipment.

To be fair I've not had my eyes calibrated in a while, but you are right, especially in this situation, it is always going to be a little over the top, measurement wise, once that adrenaline gets pumping.

I was going to rake up a lot of leaves yesterday. Then I thought, lets see what the storm does and I was in luck, all in the one place ready to collect. Great timing Debi.
