Yes we know the script with these LP sSystems don’t we but hey you have to dream don’t you mate😀maybe one day, just maybe

That is the perfect dream mate, heavy snow pushing up from the southwest, dumping at least a few inches, cold re-asserts from the North, followed by snow showers.

As others have mentioned today it feels like it should do at this time of the year....Chilly!  Chris Fawkes to do all this and next weeks BBC weather forecasts please... "...and it's next week things could get really interesting" instead of some other more sombre forecasters that always feel like they need to apologise when forecasting wintry weather.

Looking like a traditional battleground scenario next week ❄️, something to hark back to the 80's.  Still lots of clarification to get through this week to see out the specifics play out.

GFS 12 Z slightly less cold 850s but big low comes right through the cold air... Looks like a win-win which ever scenario plays out.

I don't think UKMO 12z is a great as some are making out. Yes less danger of a breakdown but that does not say snowfest to me, not that a mid winter northerly is ideal for the region

What I mean is those blues and deep blues need to be over the UK. eg 7th/8th February 1969

Or New Year 1995

On both occasions snow did fell in the region

I wonder if that is what produced this?

Photo is around these parts Feb 1969 but I do not have the exact date.

Could be or it could be a week later. There was a big snowfall then as well

Maybe the twelfth, as that was when the polar low hit. I think! 🤔

Mid January- Early Feb looks ripe for battlegrounds on the Netweather monthly, below average temps this week, well below average temps next week, less cold with milder conditions from the SW perhaps temporarily before colder than average again from the north. Tonight's crazy 12z GFS snow aside - there is real potential for a big impact snow event/ events over the next few weeks. Lots to watch to see what develops, twists, turns and surprises along the way.

Shades of  a more potent 18th Jan 2013 there. It’ll correct south and bury the Midlands just watch 🙃❄️😉

definitely 18th Jan was great! GFS is perfect for my area, but watch it correct South and give W Midlands a pasting, boooooooooooooooo!

So here’s the question.

Starting Monday 15th Jan for 14 days you could pick anywhere in the country to live, where would it be? Scotland? NE for the Easterly? South Midlands for a jackpot snow event off the channel runners? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️A mountain in Wales? In this set up I’m not sure. I like the look of South midlands just in case those low pressure systems bump into the cold air for a foot of snow but then I might miss out on shower activity 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

where is the perfect place ???

There isn’t a southern bias in the nob thread, posters from Kent, Sussex and Essex have told me.
