Surely can't get anywhere near than Manchester -17c from 2010?

When they talk of January records being broken? Or is it date records?

It was about - 10 at 4pm that day.

Thick snow cover. Amazing. Don't think I will ever see that again on my doorstep.

Certainly not after moving to the coast!

Perhaps temps won't drop too much further close to the coast at least as we pick up a slight wind from the NW.. though inland parts should keep light winds or no wind.

Tomorrow will feel colder than today thanks to more of a winchill though temps will probably be a degree or two higher reducing chance of an ice day for many. Here I'm only expecting a couple of hours or so above freezing though.

Eyes on where snow showers develop.. another interesting day for wintry fans tomorrow.

Quick summary of tomorrow night from the high-res models.

18z GFS - light snow showers moving through the region 5-10pm . No accumulations.

18z WRF - a band of heavy snow showers move through the region tomorrow evening, clearing my midnight. A cm or two in places.

18z Arome - downgrade from 12z , a few snow showers in the west of the region tomorrow evening, Also a few snow showers clipping the Merseyside coast tonight too.

18z Arpege - snow mainly confined to western parts of the region however becoming more widespread Friday morning, possibly very light covering in places

18z HARMONIE - heavy snow showers tomorrow evening weakening as they move SE across the region, heaviest across Cumbria

18z ICON - similar to Harmonie

WRF is by far the keenest for snow. A case of west is best I think 🙂

That was certainly the most intense cold spell our region has experienced since 63. Think it also holds the coldest temperature on record for Manchester.

Currently -6C. I'm thinking a minima of -8/-9 is possible. -10C would be great 😄

What a spell that was Jan 2010. Still remember shoveling the snow and the huge mounds next to my path, crazy. That was hard work for a stick insect like me lol.

I concur, it was fantastic, apart from it brought the guttering down and the pipes froze so no heating. Until I got some hot tea towels on the pipes.

Radar and nowcast watching.. I think late afternoon/early eve best chance, they may just hug the coast or just stay away from Cumbria. Coastal parts most at risk especially south of Whitehaven.

Shame I'd love some more snow 🤣

Back to tonight I don't think I'm gonna go below minus 6

That makes you one of the mildest places in the UK! Even L’pool Airport is at -3C. You sure it’s only -1 where you are?

-5.3C here in Widnes.

I quiver at the name ‘Whitehaven’ one of the most depressing and behind the times places I’ve ever been. I vowed never to return, ever!

Doesn’t feel as cold as that Dec 2022 spell did IMO. That was FREEZING.

We did get closer to -10 here though that spell.

Fair chance of a weak streamer setting up later tomorrow in S parts of the region IMO

Feeling chilly in the house, heating is back on.  -7.2°C, currently Macc.  Any precipitation at the moment is just over the Dee estuary approaching Chester.  Shap in double minus digits, -11°C.

Everywhere looks white again.  Nightmare to walk on pavements here after yesterdays partial thaw.
