Yes a bone chiller it was. Exceptionally icy. Temps this evening are climbing as we see modified air mixing with the cold air off the Irish Sea. Current temp -0.7 degrees.

Are winds expected to turn westerly, this in theory should enhance the risk of snow showers here if the case.

Feels tropical here compared to last night, temps of 0c. I can't see me seeing anymore more snow from this current spell

Showers seem to dying out as they head inland. Oh well I'd give this cold spell a 6/10. A bit above average mostly for the cold but on the snow front "ok" but needs improvement. Had better. Not as good as the Jan 2013 cold spell here but it's been a nice break from the Atlantic onslaught which we're going to find ourselves back in again soon enough!

Think I'll give it about 7 surprise snow fall, but to be fair I've enjoyed the fog frost low temps cold crisp sunny days. Just wish most of the snow stuck. The mild sector on Tuesday was a big pain in the a r se

Just put the cardboard out in the recycling bin and was greeted with 3 flakes of snow.

If that's it, I'm not complaining.

Last year's December (2022) cold spell I'd rank a bit higher locally than my 6. About a 7.5. About the same amount of snow back then as we've had recently but the longevity of the cold was longer and a bit more intense. If there was more snow it would've been amazing.

So that's how Rashi Sanook has fiddled the inflation figures -- shrinkflation everything? 😁

Even cold spells. Only last a couple of days now. Not like the good old days.

Not much activity in the Irish Sea, but may see a few showers pop up through the night.

Tomorrow will still be cold and the last day of the cold spell which started on Saturday. We will have had 2 ice days, and nearly one more on Monday - though I think it was, my sensor a bit out.

Cold wise, a good spell, but short.

Snowfall on Tuesday was good at 4 inches, but the mild sector was annoying, with some rain washes alot away and scouring fields leaving compact ice. Had the sector been less wide and narrow the last 2 days and tomorrow would have been great with a cover.

Still waiting for a spell of a few days with a deep even crisp cover not decimated by freeze-thaw. Dec 22 delivered nothing really.

Yes this has been a short sharp cold spell but not what most would call significant I'd imagine, some might do, everything open to different interpretations. I'm still not giving up on February bringing something properly noteworthy and persistent though. We'll see 🙂 if not an early taste of spring will do to save on the heating.
