Prominent 22 degree halo, but also faintly visible a 46 degree one.

Some interesting weather coming up, we will certainly learn a thing or two from it.

Dry but cold will do me just fine, working outside what's seemed like endless days of rain has been a right struggle, looking forward to this afternoon (not).

I'm pretty sure we will have some snow opportunities but it's not worth getting stressed over, especially after every run. I sometimes wish we didn't have access to so much information (data), as a kid I was excited to see a snow symbol on tv weather maps...that was the chase 😃

I think you have hit the nail on the head there, too much information can be both detrimental and obscuring in a wa3y 'you can't see the wood for the trees'

Cloud thickening here in London and rain started... looking like a damp evening ahead

That's the point of the expert. They know what is wood and what is trees. MattH did an excellent post earlier today (which probably got buried in the avalanche of posts on the winter thread) and I have to be honest, what he called obvious and classic were, from a perspective of little knowledge not either of those. Of note, he wasn't surprised how December turned out and thinks January will turn cold - as the graphs clearly (!) show that. They may, but it's his deep understanding of the topic that allows him to say that. I'm considered an expert in my own field, but coming away from what you know well to see how brilliantly others handle data in their field is humbling and a good reminder of our own limitations.

It certainly has been a very dark and wet day today!

Not what we want. More unwelcome rain moving slowly north and likely to give at least an inch (25mm) for many.

MAD thread in full ramp mode. Difficult not to get caught up in the excitement. The most spectacular charts are still 9 or 10 days away so plenty of things can go wrong before then.

All that seems certain is it will be pretty chilly early next week maybe frosty depending on cloud amounts. After that wouldn't like to say.

Being from the north east, i used to look through the evening gazette newspaper just to see if the weather forecast paragraph showed the outlook had 'Colder' written. There  can be too much information now on which you can fall off from.  I will be looking out of my window each morning and seeing if it may snow. If not, dry and cold will do me just fine. In 2010 I was ins Scotland and I had to did my car out of a snow drift over 4m deep in -8, believe me, its no fun  🙂

What a horrible afternoon and evening, rain since mid afternoon and dark in the house before 3:30. Even the new kitten gave up looking out the window at the rain drops as there was too many.

Same here MAF, river was already bursting its banks last week. PITA living at such low elevation surrounded by rivers.

I've come out, there's a low exiting Greenland that threatens to scupper the narnia outlook. If this cold spell goes belly up, that place will be full of disappointment and gloom.

Oh dear, doesn't sound too good lol

A low making its way down is bound to skirt past the UK in some fashion or other. Think we are likely to wave bye-bye to anything other than chilly couple of days ...
