Hellish start to the day, raw with gales and lashing rain. After a short lull with glimpses of blue skies we’ve had some heavy, blustery snow showers zipping past from the West. Found a tick on the dog earlier, not having to deal with those horrible wee critters is another reason why cold/snow spells are great

Last day of the month and it looks like mean monthly temps will come in at average or a touch below.

Different for our friends up north who enjoyed that snowy week but not a lot to remember Jan 24 for locally. One ice day (they’re always notable here) and a storm with 80+mph gusts on the 21st. No snowfall, 5 air frosts. Probably the most significant thing was rainfall being near normal after three consecutive very wet months. Be grateful for small mercies! 😁

Apologies. I still haven't figured out how to do a proper quote.

You can still do a proper quote of sorts, just hold to highlight a word, drag out the selection, then hopefully you get a pop up quote button you can select. It can be awkward, but works.

Don't know how I ended up with two quotes in the same post though.

Well had no ice days , 4 air frosts and a lot of cloudy meh days , roll on spring as don't see anything cold enough coming now to keep snow on ground for any length of time if we see any at all. Will settle for some dry bright cold days.😀

We're just back from Inverness (PSB @ Eden Court which was fun) and got thoroughly splattered by wet sleet on the way home.

Now 4C at home and a clear sky, still a fair breeze but nothing like earlier. This morning was horrendous, just short of causing serious damage in a few places.

Ingunn or her straggling remnants are a bit of a nuisance here.

seems like it’ll be bad in parts of Norway tonight/tomorrow, hope they take care up there.

Anyone been in the mad thread lately??

Seen a few post on X “formerly known as Twitter” 😂 saying things are trending in the right direction for a greeny high and colder/cold/snow/snowy conditions on the way 10th Feb onwards……but I can’t bring myself to go in there and see what’s happening with 50million different opinions on whether the cold will entrench the south coast and bring them Narnia like conditions 😆

so a simple yes it’s looking good for us up in Scotland will suffice 😁

Highlighting text you want to quote (left click over relevant bit) then clicking on the tiny little box that pops up saying 'quote selection' works in the old way. It wasn't broke so why's it been fixed? Jeez, some folk have to fiddle with stuff don't they?

It started raining mid-morning and doesn't look like it's going to ease up any time soon.

With the influence of more of a -PNA paired to MJO phase 6 I'd not be shocked seeing potential for a storm as the associated troughing crosses the UK between February 8th > 12th ⚠️💣

Exciting scenarios appearing within this timeframe, dependant on orientation of the low(s) but definitely potential here for a snowstorm - blizzard within the UK / possibly Ireland.

Also keeping a watch for increased risk of flash flooding impacts for Portugal which could extend across Southern Europe as an increasingly strong Jet Stream moves across the region also in this time period.

Very mild out there, already 11c with a stiff westerly wind and plenty of sunshine.

Time to clearout the garden...

Nice cloudscapes first thing.

Curious darker banding seen in what appeared to be clear blue sky (pollution contrails??)..

The wind has been picking up through the morning and we're now getting some really abrupt westerly gusts that make walking up the street a challenge at times. The firth is pretty wild too.

Sunny but breezy but very mild. At 13C it is the warmest day of the year here so far.
