First Snow Date For Me

The first wintry shower suprisingly arrived for me on the 20th November, and I live in the East Midlands. That day was foggy throughout and drizzle fell as sleet in the early morning when temperatures were low. First significant snow came on the 4th December in the evening but lasted a mere 2 minutes.

Alps Ski And Weather Forecast 2nd December

Introduction It remains a very disappointing start to Winter for the Alps, with very little snow for the lower slopes, However the cold overnight temperatures have meant that snow cannons have been in operation, and a large number of resorts have been able to open. However the lack of snow has meant that the opening Ski races schedule for Val D'Isere have had to be moved to Beaver Creek in North America. More details on snow amounts and general conditions available on at the Ski Cl

Lomond Snowstorm's 2011/12 Winter Forecast

I perhaps left this forecast a bit late, to the point that it coincides with the Netweather one, but I felt it was worth doing one anyway even if it overlaps with much of what others are saying. I'll have a look at the factors to consider, then summarise each individual month, both in terms of the general pattern and for Scotland in particular. Key Factors ENSO - We're most likely looking at a weak-moderate La Nina, perhaps similar in strength to last year,

Weather Models Experiment

Introduction, Over the course of September and October this year I carried out a experiment to see what weather models performed the best at different time ranges from 24 hours to 144 hours. How it works, Firstly I would let all the models do their 12z runs so none over them had a 12 hour advantage over another. Once they had done their 12z run I would pick a location and each model predicted its thought on it. The models then get awarded points on how close they are. [

Relief At Last

With todays announcement in the Commons by Shipping Minister Mike Penning, I and my colleagues can breathe a huge sigh of relief that finally it has been confirmed that we have saved our station from threatened closure. Almost a year has passed since the initial announcement was made in December last year and I don't mind telling you that we have all been through hell. From my own perspective, if the closure went ahead, I stood to lose everything I had worked so hard for over the past twenty-odd

Pc Gaming And Digital Distribution

This blog article will explore the future of PC gaming using DRM on the one hand, and online extras/support on the other, and how things may pan out if we see numerous competitors such as "Origin" compete (if that's the right word for it, as we will see below) with Valve Software's "Steam". As many will already know, I am a strong opponent of forcing Digital Rights Management (DRM) on consumers because of the vast potential for abuse (as DRM basically gives the DRM owner scope to set whatever

Alps Ski And Weather Forecast 18th November

Current Situation There is High pressure centered (1028mb) over SE Europe, with pressure over 1020mb for most of mainland Europe. winds over western Europe are coming from a mild SW direction for much of the Alps and for Western parts of Europe including Southern Scandinavia. Colder air is restricted to the far north of Scandinavia where this a northerly flow and for Russia. The mild weather looks well set for much of mainland Europe, however Scandinavia is set to see a change, and th

Alpine Winter 2011-12 Look Ahead

This is the first in a series of blogs looking at the Snow and Skiing conditions for the Alps for winter 2011-12. A cursory look at the webcams across the Alps will show that snow levels are currently on recent at this early stage, and that temps over the Alps have been milder than normal so far in November. As an example the following table shows maximum temps for Zermatt (1600m - Switzerland) and Salzburg (450m - Austria), this only gives a snapshot, but it can be seen that Temps are mil

Insiders Voice Doubts About Cia’s 9/11 Story

Salon.com FRIDAY, OCT 14, 2011 1:00 PM GMT DAYLIGHT TIME
A growing number of former government insiders — all responsible officials who served in a number of federal posts — are now on record as doubting ex-CIA director George Tenet’s account of events leading up to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. Among them are several special agents of the FBI, the former counterterrorism head in the Clinton and Bush administrations, and the chairman of the 9/11 Commission, who t

V6 Radar + Atd Lightning On The Way

It's been a while since we had any major news about the radar, so I thought today would be a good time to share some with you.. In short, although the V5 version of the radar is still fairly new and in it's final beta phase, we've decided to jump straight on to V6 and are currently working hard to put that in place. The new system will use the same mapping and zooms as V5 but will use newer technology to allow us to bring a number of new features - including many of the most requested ones f

Homelessness, Hopelessness?

For years to come I'll remember those days, Days into nights into days, just a haze, When food was scarce, conversation less, And sympathetic glances with whispers of 'bless'. Dissaproving looks, murmurs and tutts, Having to smoke discarded butts, When all I wanted was a chat and a smile, And all I received was behaviour so vile. If only they knew the heartache and pain, The desperation deep down, the pain, the drain, Of fighting each day and making it through, And willing to gain

Seasons

Summer fades upon us all Leaves turn brown, it's soon the Fall The leaves are changing, and for that reason That is why we love the Seasons The Autumn colours rage so bold But foggy days lead to the cold With every day we lose the leaves And feel the chill in every breeze Cold days lead to frosty paths Warm houses with hotter baths Runny noses, coughs and sneezes All brought on by winter's breezes Fireplaces, rosy faces snow is falling in all places roads are gridlocked, c

Winter And Summer In The Same Week

As Fall approaches so do the thoughts of yellow and red leaves, pumpkins and Thanksgiving. Along with the festivites in October is usually the appearance of the first snows of the year, children running out open eyed forgetting they had 6 months of it last year. This year is a little different. An abysmal start to the Spring/Summer season with snow up until early June but all that changed with the arrival of July. Since July 7th temps have averaged over 25oC with only a handful of days falli

13 Weeks In

Well, here we are 13 weeks into fatherhood! I’m very conscious of becoming a baby bore (see earlier blog entry) so I’ll keep it brief! In a nutshell I’ve never been so tired and yet so happy, she is a little darling and any sleepless nights are forgiven with one little smile. In other news we have finally sold the back end of our garden to our neighbor who is going to build a house on the plot of land. It’s great to finally see this happen as we have been negotiating and trying
